Job Description
This is a 2-year fixed-term position.
Job Purpose

Financial Management Services (FMS), a department within Business Affairs, is responsible for creating an ecosystem which promotes innovative and sound financial administration policies and practices that balance controls, compliance, and customer service. FMS is primarily responsible for financial policy oversight, quality assurance and financial services at Stanford University and its affiliated entities. It also serves as a liaison to the hospitals and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). The IT Business Analyst is a key member of the Financial Systems & Reporting (FSR) team within the Financial Management Services (FMS) group. FSR seeks an analyst to support the Pinnacle project which will transition the university HR, Timekeeping and Payroll systems to Oracle Cloud.
The analyst will support all integration efforts, including requirements gathering, testing and operationalization, for finance data flows between the payroll and the university and SLAC financial systems. Additionally, the analyst will support integration efforts with outsourced service providers for the payroll ecosystem.
Core Duties
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with business analysis of ERP systems, preferably PeopleSoft HRMS and Oracle HCM, with proven ability to apply knowledge to understand new systems and processes.
  • System implementation experience, including writing functional design specifications, creating test cases and analyzing test outcomes.
  • Experience working in a payroll environment, including experience with payroll and timekeeping systems.
  • Proven ability to apply knowledge to analyze and interpret business policies and external regulations and translate them into compliant and efficient system processes.
  • Sufficient knowledge of SQL, or similar scripting language, to be able to interpret programming code as well as write scripts to extract data for analysis.
Minimum Requirements
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree plus three years of applicable experience, or a combination of education and relevant work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Demonstrated tact, diplomacy, sound judgment and sensitivity to handling of confidential data.
  • Experience at Stanford University and/or PeopleSoft HRMS and Oracle HCM is preferred.
  • Listening, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Skill in conducting interviews.
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques used in conducting systems analysis.
  • Proven problem solving and analytical thinking and ability to approach problems logically and systematically.
  • Ability to document complex business systems.
  • Ability to maintain good customer relations with clients and external vendors and partners.
  • Understanding of enterprise and database driven applications.
  • Understanding of the software development life cycle.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to bridge functional and technical resources by communicating effectively with individuals of varying systems expertise and business needs.
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to balance time-sensitive operational deadlines with progress on longer-term enhancements and projects.
  • Knowledge of computer system capabilities, business processes, and workflow.

The expected pay range for this position is $72,000 to $100,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
