Job Description
PARC, now part of SRI International, is in the Business of Breakthroughs®. Practicing open innovation, we provide custom R&D services, technology, expertise, best practices, and intellectual property to Fortune 500 and Global 1000 companies, startups, and government agencies and partners. PARC is an esteemed research organization that combines the application focus of an entrepreneurial startup with the academic depth of a topnotch university to achieve deep understanding of important problems and develop applications with everyday impact in the physical world.

PARC’s Collaborative Visual Computing Area is seeking an intern with Unity game engine experience to help us develop innovative augmented reality (AR) tools to provide real-world task assistance. These tasks include domains such as cooking meals and maintaining equipment. Unlike many AR systems, PARC’s system uses computer vision techniques to track the current state of the task to enable the system to double check progress and tailor guidance to user’s current situation. Our assistant has a front-end component that tracks progress and provides guidance as well as back-end tools that are used to create the models used by the system to understand what is happening.

As an intern you would potentially contribute both to improving our guidance interface with novel interaction techniques and our back end tools with new features to build models with a richer understanding of objects in the world. Interns will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge AR/MR headsets and utilize local GPU servers and Azure computing resources to accelerate development. Interns at PARC work one-on-one with a scientist mentor to develop protypes with real world impact and have the opportunity to develop their research careers by filing patents and publishing papers. Interns also are invited to weekly research meetings, reading groups and talks. PARC internships are generally 13 weeks in the summer, but there is some flexibility in start and end dates to meet school constraints.

  • Current graduate student majoring in Computer Science, Engineer or a related field
  • Hands-on experience on HoloLens 2, Quest 2 or Quest Pro
  • Expertise in Unity, AR Foundation, Mixed Reality Toolkit (MRTK), Meta Presence Platform & 3D modeling tools
  • Hands-on algorithm and software development in one or more of Python, C++, C#

Desired skills

  • Experience with deep Learning for computer vision using CNNs or Transformer architectures and relevant tool frameworks such as Tensorflow and Pytorch
  • Experience integrating object detection models into AR applications
  • Familiarity with 3D content creation tools such as Maya, 3ds Max, Blender, etc.

The salary range is $30-$45/hr. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. Positions may also qualify for SRI's Pay for Outstanding Performance program or the annual Performance Based Compensation program. SRI also has a competitive benefits package, to view details please go to https//www.sri.com/resources/benefits/.
