Job Description
Mize CPAs Inc. is a leading regional accounting and IT firm with offices in Topeka and Overland Park, Kansas. Our firm works with clients in a number of industries and has a rapidly growing restaurant and hospitality division that serves clients nationwide.


The Internal Accounting Assistant is responsible for supporting the Internal Controller with data entry, scanning, maintaining forms, bookkeeping, and working with Excel spreadsheets. The position will assist with reviewing the firm payroll including payroll analysis and preparing federal and state payroll tax filings. This position will also assist with accounts payable and daily 401K management functions. The Internal Accounting Assistant is an in-office position based in the Topeka office and can be performed on a hybrid-remote basis after training is completed, approximately 3 - 6 months after hire date.


Esssential Functions and Responsibilities:


  • Completes internal payroll entries to the general ledger
  • Set up and maintain client records in time and billing system
  • Prepares federal and state tax deposits and annual tax forms, such as W-2s,1099s, and multi-state filings
  • Assist with monthly payroll and bank reconciliations and related journal entries
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
  • Assist with routine billing and analysis as required
  • Assists in the recurring administration of the firm’s insurance and risk transactions
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements
  • Prepare and post journal entries into the general ledger
  • Assists with the preparation of the budget
  • Enter and transmit ACH batch files
  • Perform simple account reconciliations
  • Assist with the daily administration of the firm's 401(k) Plan
  • Files annual reports in designated states
  • Performs bi-weekly internal payroll review and reporting
  • Maintain fixed asset records and reports


Requirements


Required Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 2 years' office experience
  • Intermediate level proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Individuals at this level normally have a high school diploma or equivalence
  • In-office work during training, due to the interaction necessary with the trainer. Amount of time required will vary based on the individual's experience and abilities
  • Excellent typing, proofreading, spelling, and grammar skills

  • Creative problem-solving ability
  • Proficiency in use of accounting and tax software
  • Strong technical knowledge and skills
  • Prior experience working in a CPA firm or professional office environment
