Job Description

Job duties:
  • The Intelligence Analyst performs complex investigative analyst duties for the Inspector General, Special Agent-in-Charge and Investigative Services Unit. As an Intelligence Analyst is responsible for receiving, reviewing, documenting, analyzing and determining the appropriate action for allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, and misconduct reported to the OIG.

  • MONITORS HOTLINE - Receives, analyzes, and determines appropriate action for all Hotline complaints received by DSS OIG (to include request for assistance). Ensures that all complaints are resolved in prescribed timelines and in accordance with applicable standards. Evaluates allegations and considers all relevant evidence and aspects of the matters presented, such as credibility of the source, to determine if a violation of rule, law regulation or standards of conduct occurred. Responsible for recognizing, exploring, and exploiting leads, detecting discrepancies, and distinguishing between relevant and irrelevant information.

  • CONDUCT INQUIRIES - Conducts preliminary inquiries when the information in the initial allegation appears to have merit but the information provided is neither sufficient nor clear enough to warrant opening an investigation. Responds to complainants' request for status updates on submitted complaints. Follow-up on complaints referred to other DSS program areas for tracking and disposition.

  • CONDUCT RESEARCH - Conducts preliminary and general investigative research on entities and persons of interest within local, state, and federal government databases and commercial databases. Achieves and maintains NCIC access, conducts NCIC queries for Agents. and uses law enforcement database to help facilitate investigation (CLEAR, NDEX, CJIS online, SCIEX). Researches, analyzes, interprets, and evaluates investigative and administrative data to support criminal investigations and enhance procedures. Maintains contact with various court systems and or law enforcement agencies to request court documents, police reports, or other information relevant to an investigation.

  • ANALYZE INFORMATION - Serves as a liaison with the South Carolina Information and Intelligence Center. Serve as a liaison representing the unit with other program areas within DSS to facilitate information sharing for investigations. Collects, complies, and analyze a variety of evidence and statistical production data for criminal investigations.

  • DOCUMENTATION - Ensures all required correspondence and case documentation is tracked, completed, and recorded in the Hotline Information Tracking System (HITS) and Case Management and Tracking System (CMTS). Verifies that data input and maintained in the permanent system of records supporting the Hotline.

  • PERFORMS ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS - Prepare and submit weekly activity reports to the Special Agent-in-Charge. Enters and uploads pertinent information and adjudicative actions into HITS and CMTS. Receives, records, tracks, and organizes investigative documents, evidence, and confidential information. Receive completed investigative files, scan, and update notes in CMTS.

  • REPORTING - Prepare and present urgent information to the Inspector General and Special Agent-in-Charge. Prepare reports, statistics, correspondence, and memoranda relating to all analytical duties, including preparation of statistical reports, charts, ad spreadsheets, relating to data research and or analysis.

  • Performs other duties as required. Performs Red Cross duty and/or other emergency shelter duties as directed.

Agency Requirements:

A High School Diploma and six (6) years of experience in business management, public administration or administrative services.

An Associate's Degree and four (4) years of experience in business management, public administration or administrative services.

A Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of experience in business management, public administration or administrative services.

A Master's Degree and one (1) year of experience in business management, public administration or administrative services.

Must have a valid driver's license. Position requires minimal lifting not to exceed 25 pounds.
