Job Description
Overview:
The Intellectual Property (Patent) Paralegal will be responsible for managing client portfolios, including all filings and correspondence for both US, PCT, and foreign prosecution of assigned clients. This entails creating, revising, and filing of all prosecution documents in US and PCT applications, corresponding with foreign associates regarding all aspects of foreign prosecution, and timely reporting of official correspondence concerning the same. The position requires excellent attention to detail, strong organizational and prioritization skills, and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will be highly adaptable, proactive, and have a high level of analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. A strong working knowledge of Microsoft products and comfort level with technology are essential. The ability to work both independently and in a team environment is a must. Strong customer service orientation and oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with all tiers of personnel and clients are integral.
Responsibilities:
  • Timely report official communications to the client and foreign associates
  • Draft formality documents, attend to document legalization (where necessary), comply with priority document requirements
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
  • Support various intellectual property attorneys to provide excellent service to our clients
  • Prepare and file, or instruct, on all aspects of US, PCT, and foreign prosecution
  • Consistently achieve 1500 billable hour requirement (including approved non-billable time)
  • Review and maintain a docket of associated deadlines of assigned clients
Qualifications:
  • Thorough knowledge of patent procedural requirements of USPTO practices required
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in international, PCT, and US prosecution required
  • Must have a high school diploma (or equivalent); college degree and/or a paralegal certificate from a school approved by the ABA is preferred
  • If residing in California must meet requirements to be a Paralegal as defined by the State of California

Pursuant to the CA Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act, the expected salary range for this Los Angeles based position is between $76,200- $124,400 and the San Diego based position is between $72,900 - $118,900. Foley offers a comprehensive benefit program which currently includes Paid Time Off; Paid Holidays; Medical, Dental and Vision insurance; 401(k) Retirement; Disability and Life insurance; Adoption Assistance; Backup Care for Dependents. Pursuant to the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the expected salary range for this Denver based position is between $72,900 - $118,900. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
