BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The Instrument & Control Department of the Generation Division at Hawaiian Electric Company - Maui County has three (2) Bargaining Unit vacancies available. (Role: Non-Exempt)


JOB FUNCTION:

Performs required work on pneumatic, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic instruments and control systems in generating stations.


FUNDAMENTAL RESPONSIBLITIES:

T42:

  • On occasion, may perform the work of a Maintenance Electrician and similar duties on pneumatic and mechanical devices.
  • Performs similar and incidental duties, as required.
  • With supervision, maintains inventory and inventory records on spare parts. Initiates purchase requisition to maintain inventory levels and for replacement parts.
  • Maintains manuals, records, and drawings in proper order and in current state.
  • Works from drawings and instruction materials. Installs, maintains, adjusts, troubleshoots and repairs instrument, alarms and all control systems and equipment on boiler, turbine, diesel, generator and water treatment panels, fuel oil control equipment, chemical feed equipment, flue gas analyzers, smoke detectors, sampling tubes, test equipment, environmental monitoring equipment and/or any Production Department or company equipment.
  • Performs job functions of lower classifications, as necessary.
  • Installs all instrumentation and modifies control in consultation with supervisory personnel.
  • Works directly with other department personnel when the performance of job function requires such coordination.
  • Performs job functions with direct or indirect supervision.
  • Directs the work of lower classifications in the performance of all job functions; trains lower classification personnel in all job functions.

T59:

  • Maintains manuals, records, and drawings in proper order and in current state.
  • Works from drawings and instruction materials. Installs, maintains, adjusts, troubleshoots and repairs instrument, alarms and all control systems and equipment on boiler, turbine, diesel, generator and water treatment panels, fuel oil control equipment, chemical feed equipment, flue gas analyzers, smoke detectors, sampling tubes, test equipment, environmental monitoring equipment and/or any Power Supply Department or Company equipment.
  • Performs job functions of lower classifications, as necessary.

  • Works from drawings and instruction materials. Installs, maintains, adjusts, troubleshoots and repairs instrument, alarms and all control systems and equipment on boiler, turbine, diesel, generator and water treatment panels, fuel oil control equipment, chemical feed equipment, flue gas analyzers, smoke detectors, sampling tubes, test equipment, environmental monitoring equipment and/or any Power Supply Department or Company equipment.
  • Is responsible for equipment clearances related to work schedule.
  • Plans and conducts control system tests, makes test data analyses and calibrates equipment control system, as required to optimize generating station control systems in consultation with supervisory personnel.
  • Performs job functions with minimum technical and administrative supervision.
  • Installs all instrumentation and modifies controls in consultation with supervisory personnel.
  • Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
  • On occasion, may perform the work of a Maintenance Electrician and similar duties on pneumatic and mechanical devices.
  • Works directly with other department personnel when the performance of job functions require such coordination.
  • Maintains manuals, records, and drawings in proper order and in current state.
  • Initiates daily work schedule based on operating log trouble reports and assigned work from electrical supervisory personnel.
  • Directs the work of lower classifications in the performance of all job functions; trains lower classification personnel in all job functions.
  • With supervision, maintains inventory and inventory records on spare parts. Initiates purchase requisition to maintain inventory levels and for replacement parts.
  • Performs job functions of lower classifications as necessary.

FUNDAMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

T42:

  • Must have or be able to qualify for State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for frequent required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
  • Must pass Company written and practical job knowledge test.
  • Ability to identify and distinguish difference between colors, including shades, hues, and tints.
  • Graduate of Instrument & Control Technician apprentice program or the equivalent training and experience.

T59:

All of the above, including:

  • Must have a minimum of 1 year experience as an Instrument & Control Technician I (T42).

T100:

All of the above, including:

  • Must have a minimum of 2 years experience as an Instrument & Control Technician II (T59).

Role: Non-Exempt

Number of Vacancies: 4

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday

Work Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Lunch: 30

Location: Maalaea Power Plant - Maui

Wage Rate: Instrument & Control Technician I: $46.55/hour; Instrument & Control Technician II: $52.78/hour; Instrument & Control Technician III: $53.62/hour
