Since it began operating in 1997, the See Forever Foundation's mission has been to create learning communities in lower-income urban areas where all students, particularly those who have not succeeded in traditional schools, can succeed academically and socially. The Foundation operates the Maya Angelou Public Charter Schools in DC, as well as the Maya Angelou Academy at New Beginnings’ secure facility for committed youth in Laurel, MD. Position Overview


This position is under the umbrella of the school culture and climate department. The primary responsibility of this position is to facilitate behavior orientation classes for students who has made irresponsible decisions and need to learn from their mistakes. The position also requires one to complete and manage all administrative documentation and submissions of accurate information into the appropriate data systems in a timely manner. Additionally, this position also provides support in managing, coaching and mentoring students to make responsible decisions in school as well as in the community.

Responsibilities


Specific Responsibilities Will Include, But Not Be Limited To


  • Creating and maintaining files of student incident reports
  • Facilitate and oversee peer mediation to resolve student conflicts
  • Interven and circumvent, when necessary, verbal and physical altercations between students
  • Support the monitoring of Live School in collaboration with the Assistant Principal of Culture
  • Document and communicate disciplinary issues to parents and families when necessary
  • Work with teachers and school leaders to Issue appropriate, minor consequences based on our code of conduct, including responding to and documenting discipline referrals from classroom teachers
  • Serving as in-school suspension coordinator
  • Facilitate Decision-Making for Success and Habits of Success classes


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree (Required), Master's Degree (Preferred)
  • Experience managing discipline outside of the classroom
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Google Documents and email
  • Three (3) or more years of experience working in behavior management and student accountability
  • Three (3) or more years of specific experience as Dean, Behavior Specialist, or Intervention Specialist working with school culture and student behaviors in an educational setting
  • Experience in a socio-emotional learning environment
