Specific Responsibilities Will Include, But Not Be Limited To

Facilitate Decision-Making for Success and Habits of Success classes

Serving as in-school suspension coordinator

High school diploma or General Education Development Certificate (GED) (Required), Bachelor’s degree. (Preferred)

Demonstrate knowledge of and the ability to assist reading, writing, and mathematics instruction. Must be energetic, reliable, flexible and integrity-driven.

Strong communication skills in order to ensure effective, positive interactions with their teaching team, staff, parents and children.

Commitment to working with limited access to quality educational opportunities. (Required)

Experience teaching in an urban school. (Preferred)

Support teachers in ensuring safe environments and instructional opportunities that meet the needs of diverse learners.

Provide resources, organize and lead professional development workshops and offer ongoing training to school staff on evidence-based literacy practice

Bachelor's degree in English, reading, education, or related field required, Master's Degree preferred

Must have or be eligible for certification by OSSE in the appropriate content area (Within one (1) year of employment-required)

3+ years elementary/secondary urban classroom experience

Experience working with incarcerated or at-risk youth (preferred)

Specific Responsibilities Will Include But Not Be Limited To

Have a thorough understanding of the requirements related to state and district standards in Music education

Demonstrate knowledge of and abilities to use research-based principles of effective instruction

Be capable of developing course goals related to state and district standards in music education

Bachelor’s degree in education or subject field (required)

Experience working with incarcerated or at-risk youth (preferred)

Specific Responsibilities Will Include, But Not Be Limited To

Exposing students to skills and education requirements applicable to various art and design careers and trades,

Demonstrating a comprehensive knowledge of the visual arts and have excellent experience in teaching and working with students

Implementing a dynamic and rigorous approach to art and design education

Promoting scholars’ self-expression and exploration while deepening their knowledge and understanding of art, design, and art history

Having thoughtful approaches to teaching concepts and sparking student interest while also imparting essential factual knowledge

Bachelor’s degree in education or subject field (required)

Special Education Certification in District of Columbia - must be obtained within 1 year of employment (required)

Collaborating with other school leaders to facilitate professional development training in special education for staff members

Reporting information to the special education coordinator to ensure compliance

Having thoughtful approaches to teaching concepts and sparking student interest while also imparting essential factual knowledge

Bachelor’s degree in education or subject field (required)

Experience working with incarcerated or opportunity youth (preferred)

Help assigned student decrease and avoid inappropriate behaviors through use of effective behavior management techniques

Display awareness of student’s diagnoses and academic achievements; adapt behavior accordingly to help meet the requirements of the student’s IEP

Demonstrate basic knowledge of all academic subjects and the ability to assist students with classwork

Bilingual (Spanish/English) abilities are a plus

Demonstrate clear and professional boundaries with all students

Assist with students’ transition between classrooms, during lunch periods and during students’ arrivals and departures

Basic knowledge of special education students

Model appropriate spoken and written language skills

Basic people skills and ability to work with special needs students

Travel to school in a timely manner

Communicate appropriately with co-workers and special needs students

Develop bonds with students and work with their parents
