The Infection Control Practitioner, under direct supervision of the manager of Infection Prevention and Control, contributes to the provision of high-quality patient care by supporting infection prevention and control practices and compliance with requirements of regulatory agencies. Participates in the identification, prevention and control of infections through application of organizational and consultation skills. Provides data analysis, outcome reports to support the reduction of healthcare associated infections. As a member of the infection prevention and control team, they help to ensure an effective infection control program across all Legacy Health medical centers and clinics. For inpatient and ambulatory patient care departments across the region, they promote continuous quality improvement across the continuum of care through the standardization of infection surveillance, prevention and control activities.

Education:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN or equivalent required; Master’s in nursing, public health, epidemiology, preferred.

Experience:

Three to five years of hospital epidemiology preferred. Minimum of (5) years progressive leadership experience.

Skills:
Minimum of three (3) years of work experience in a healthcare setting
General knowledge of clinical departments/services/functions and customer service practices.
Proficiency in the use of current software, including spreadsheets, charts and graphs, presentation programs and Microsoft Office software applications
Demonstrated ability to collect data, conduct data entry, screen data for variations/errors and create reports as directed.
Demonstrated ability to utilize organization, problem solving and decision-making skills.
Demonstrated ability to interface and communicate in a clear, concise and timely manner with healthcare workers including physicians and administration.
Demonstrated knowledge of nursing theory and evidenced-based practices.
Familiarity with accrediting bodies, The Joint Commission, OSHA, State Epidemiology and Public Health Department, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) requirements.
Ability to manage multiple tasks

Current RN license for state of primary assignment required. The other state (Washington, if primary assignment is Oregon) RN license must be obtained within 12 weeks of hire. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) within 3 years of hire is preferred.
