Position Description

At a Glance

Focal Point has an immediate opening for an Industrial Designer to join our Concept Design Team! We are looking for a designer that will flourish in a creative environment where napkin sketches and quick prototyping with open and engaging dialogue is a regular occurrence. Someone that is continuously inspired by the built environment around us and actively seeks ways to broaden their design skills and depth of knowledge. A problem solver who loves building things and developing novel solutions. This position reports to the Product Design Manager.

Responsibilities

• Apply creative thinking and analysis to develop unique and compelling concepts
• Engage with our marketing teams to develop new capabilities and collateral
• Represent design concepts in a clear, intuitive, spatially accurate manner
• Work with cross-functional teams throughout the design-intent process
• Simultaneously support multiple projects in various phases of development
• Rapidly develop proof of concept mock-ups and prototypes

Qualifications

Requirements:

• Curiosity and interest in architecture, construction, lighting, electronics, building controls and automation
• Customer-focused with user-research experience
• Demonstrated success working in cross-functional teams
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Detail-oriented and hands-on, with a desire to “roll up your sleeves” to help your team get the job done
• Knowledge and natural interest of hard/softgood materials and manufacturing processes
• 3 - 5 years of product design experience. Architecture/Interior Design experience a plus
• Working knowledge in SolidWorks, Keyshot, and Adobe Suite. Parametric design, Grasshopper / Rhino, Arduino a plus.
• Familiarity with CMF (Color, Material + Finish) processes and trends, emphasis on product circularity
• Strong passion and enthusiasm for design and the constructed environment (interior design and architecture).
• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design from an accredited program
