We are looking for an Industrial Design Manager to help propel the City Bike products and our team to the next level. The city product development team has brought some of the most exciting cycling products in the world to market including eBikes, cargo bikes, commuter bikes, kid’s bikes and others.
As a Design Manager at Trek, your purpose is to help your team create great ride experiences for cyclists around the world from fun neighborhood rides to serious transportation needs. You’ll coach and work together with a small group of industry leading bike designers to provide forward thinking concepts and design direction for bicycles, components, and accessory products. Aside from rider research, concept planning, design refinement, and production support, you’ll also be a strategic partner to the City category team. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership in design, problem solving, communication, and visualization skills, excel in a multi-functional, global team, and most importantly, be a team player.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Be a teammate that people love to work with!
  • Support designers to be the best that they can be.
  • Push research informed and crazy ideas forward in sketches, storytelling, 3D, physical prototypes, and rideable concepts.
  • Communicate effectively with teammates and internal and external resources to ensure new product development success.
  • Bring amazing aesthetic and technical solutions to rider’s needs.
Requirements
  • Proven ability at solving complex design problems with simple and elegant solutions
  • Self-motivated and ready to take the initiative to get things done
  • Strong sketching and 2D communication skills
  • Good mechanical and structural aptitude, and knowledge of various materials and their associated manufacturing processes.
  • A work hard/play hard attitude. This is a fun place to work, and we expect you to love what you do!
  • 7+ years of post-graduate, professional design experience. Ideally, some experience leading/mentoring designers.
  • Bachelor's degree/diploma in Industrial Design or Product Design
  • Proficient in all phases of product development: research, ideation, sketching, concept refinement.
  • SolidWorks, OnShape, Rhino, Sketchbook Pro, Adobe skills are a big plus
