IGM Bioinformatics Analyst I

The Bioinformatics Analyst I will be based in a translational research lab in the Institute for Genomic Medicine interfacing closely with clinicians, bioinformaticians, and wet bench scientists as part of a team studying 1) the relationship between the microenvironment of the developing pediatric hindbrain and pediatric brain tumors and 2) next generation DNA methylation-based classification systems. The Analyst will assist in all aspects of next-generation sequencing analysis including processing of samples using standard genomics kits for library generation, data generation, analysis, interpretation, and publication. The position will be ~90% computational and ~10% benchwork. He or she should possess strong data processing and data quality control abilities, enjoy solving complex problems and possess a desire to make an impact in medical care through advancing our understanding of the role of the human genome and epigenome in disease. Excellent verbal and written communication skills will be essential as the individual will work collaboratively with developers, scientists, and clinicians on projects that lead to publications and presentations at professional meetings. The candidate will also be encouraged to participate in bioinformatics related discussions, group meetings and presentations for the IGM. Specific competencies may vary based upon area of specialty within the IGM Computational Genomics Group. Previous experience in molecular biology, bioinformatics, or a computational biological background is preferred but not required for this position.
