Job Description
The Training and Compliance Coordinator is delegated by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) as the post-approval monitor to design, develop and conduct: (1) On-site reviews of animal research projects to assess compliance with institutional and regulatory agency policies and procedures, and (2) educational and training programs regarding regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures for the use of animals in research.

About the Office of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)


The mission of the IACUC is to promote and to facilitate scientific research while complying with mandatory laws, regulations, and policies. The IACUC strives to reduce the number of animals required, to perform research with techniques that limit pain or distress, and to seek alternative procedures that can supply the required results but do not utilize living animals. To that end, our goal is to promote and encourage an atmosphere of attention, concern and caring for the welfare and comfort of the animals that are under our charge.

Qualifications


Education or Equivalency Required


A Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific or laboratory animal science field, preferably biological or clinical sciences, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; or veterinary technician degree and laboratory animal experience.


Required Qualifications


  • Proficient with computer software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and various database systems.
  • Basic knowledge of animal techniques including anesthesia, aseptic technique, and drug administration as well as recognition of normal animal behavior and appropriate handling of laboratory animals.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Reasonable (1-3 years) experience in an animal care or research field and basic knowledge of regulatory compliance related to animal research.


Desirable Qualifications


  • Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA) certification.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and regulatory affairs in animal research.
  • Familiar with University animal research protocol and IACUC procedures.
  • Considerable (4-6 years) experience in animal research compliance and regulations.
  • Knowledge of related Federal, State and University policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Registered Laboratory Animal Technologist (RLATG) certification.
