Hutchins Teacher Assistant (No Longer Receiving Applications)

The Laboratory teaching assistant (TA) for the Hutchins Stanford Internship will be responsible for the supervision of all laboratory activities for the three interns present during the two week session.

• The TA will have laboratory experience related to chemical extractions, etc OR molecular biology, specifically, PCR, gel electrophoresis and teaching pipetting
• Call Public Safety and/or 911 should there be any lab accidents. Then the TA will call the Director of Research and Ted Ives
• The TA will have experience in Molecular Genetics including; DNA replication, cellular respiration, central dogma, restriction enzymes, designing primers for PCR, ligation & cloning vectors
• Tolerance for ambiguity and flexibility
• Communicate with the Director of Research and Lab Manager as needed
• Supervise the students that they are in charge of during the 2 weeks in the lab each day/evening during the week/weekends
• High School Diploma (by start of program)
• The TA is required to be familiar with all experimental procedures and calculations involved in an experiment prior to entering the laboratory and must be prepared to lecture briefly on this material
• Meet with the Director of Student Research daily or as needed to discuss progress of interns. The TA will meet with Ted Ives to review safety procedures during the first day of internships
• Responsible for laboratory housekeeping, and should ensure that students keep their areas clean and neat before leaving the laboratory
• Strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills
• Maintain a safe, instructive atmosphere in the laboratory at all times.The TA must follow all safety guidelines at all times in the laboratory, and must enforce these guidelines for all students in the laboratory
