The Opportunity

At Ford, our Plant HR teams are a critical part of the leadership operating committees that drive our commitment to manufacturing excellence. The Plant HR Director is responsible for managing all Human Resources functions for plant management, hourly and salaried employees within a complex manufacturing environment. Plant HR leaders are strategic Human Resource business partners who bring the ability to build strong relationships, to be a trusted partner to all levels of employees within their facility and to drive a world class employee experience. This is a fast paced, once in a career opportunity to motivate and inspire our plant teams deliver the amazing products that our customers want through driving excellence in our culture. In this role you will:

  • Oversee recruitment and hiring initiatives including partnering with Operations Committee and line leaders to help them to build their knowledge of effective and legal interviewing/recruitment practices
  • Support, coach and counsel operating managers and salaried staff in people related matters
  • Support and champion the Ford Production System (FPS) to drive standardized processes and procedures
  • Partner with Labor Relations experts in UAW contract negotiations and administration
  • Guide and influence the plant Operating Committee (Plant Managers etc.) on creating a world class employee experience within the facility
  • Serve as an interface for local government as required
  • Oversee the management of union/relations and hourly personnel administration including overseeing the grievance process
  • Administering all salaried personnel matters
  • Drive and participate in community initiatives and relations
  • Driving organization and personnel planning
  • Monitor communications (hourly and salaried) ensuring effective communication across the facility
  • Partner with the Employee Relations Center of Excellence as needed in both ongoing and preventative measures
  • Support Health and Safety, Training, Medical and Workers' compensation
  • Assist plant leadership in living the Ford OS behaviors and promoting a culture of Excellence, Focus and Collaboration
  • Drive and support the development of the facility’s Human Resources team

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's required, Master's preferred
  • Previous experience working with large, hourly employee populations in either a union or non-union environment
  • 2+ years of People Management experience
  • 8+ years of Human Resources or Employee Relations experience in salaried processes including, but not limited to compensation planning, personnel relations, performance management, employee coaching/counseling, employee engagement, employee development, organization development and workforce planning

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Presence to successfully represent Ford Motor Company and interface with government agencies and other external organizations
  • HR Business Partner experience including project management, change management and/or organizational development
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, empower and develop employees
  • Demonstrated conflict management skills
  • Agile, self-starter with the ability to anticipate and manage change
  • Ability to work closely and successfully with others to deliver results
  • Drives results through collaboration
  • Demonstrated experience with delivering HR process improvement actions
  • Ability to guide and influence all levels
  • Conflict management skills
  • Depth and knowledge of labor relations practices, including but not limited to grievance administration, negotiations, union relations preferred
  • Systemic thinking and strategic planning skills
  • Previous manufacturing plant experience or experience with large hourly populations (logistics, hospitality, retail, etc.)
  • Confident communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and organization skills
