Job Description
Summary


The Human Resources Generalist is directly responsible for the overall administration, coordination,


and evaluation of the human resource function. The HR Generalist reports directly to the Plant


Manager.


Functions


  • Develops and administers various human resources plan and procedures for all company


personnel.


  • Participates in developing department goals, objectives, and systems.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements personnel policies and procedures; prepares and


maintains handbook on policies and procedures; performs benefits administration to include


claims resolution, change reporting, approving invoices for payment, annual re-evaluation of policies for cost effectiveness, information activities program, and cash flow.


  • Full cycle recruiting for all exempt, non-exempt, and temporary workers.
  • Conducts new employee orientations.
  • Strives to ensure employee understanding of benefits programs by counselling employees as situations arise.
  • Performs weekly payroll and ensures accuracy, including keying in deductions. Communicates
  • Leads annual open enrollment period. Arranges for distribution of plan summary materials and required notices, assists with communicating changes to employees and arranges for onsite representation by providers.
  • Develops and maintains affirmative action program; files EEO-1 annually (if needed); maintains other records, reports, and logs to conform to EEO regulations.
  • Conducts exit interviews.
  • Acts as a liaison with the insurance carrier.
  • Administers health plans, including enrollments and terminations. Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record keeping and proper deductions. Serves as the COBRA administrator for the company.

  • Trains employees on safety, company policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to employee safety.
  • Conducts quarterly safety meetings.
  • Maintains organizational charts and employee directory.
  • Evaluates reports, decisions, and results of department initiatives in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
  • Communicates monthly safety topics.
  • The HR Generalist also acts as the Health & Safety Administrator which includes:
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Processes and tracks all time off requests and quarterly check-ins.
  • MIOSHA contact for any health and safety issues
  • Establishes and maintains department records and reports.
  • Identifying hazardous workplace conditions.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Works with Macomb County and the State of Michigan on various business and training grants including Going Pro Talent Fund (GPTF), Michigan New Jobs Training Program (MNJTP), Onthe-Job Training (OJT), and Michigan Business Development Program (MBDP).
  • Manages first aid items and PPE items.
  • Follows up on any safety issues that arise.
  • Works with the legal team as necessary to resolve any major issues.
  • Monitors and updates employee points for attendance.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work


This is a full-time, exempt position that regularly requires 40-50 hours per week.


Education And Experience Requirements


  • Minimum of 5 years of Human Resources experience
  • SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP or PHR/SPHR preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field
  • Experience with HRIS and Payroll Systems
