HI Chicago hostel is seeking a head of Housekeeping and Facilities (Manager). This position is critical to seamless hostel operations and will oversee all housekeeping and preventative maintenance functions to meet the highest of standards around cleanliness and maintenance, ensuring excellent guest service and overnight stay experience. HI Chicago hostel is a 100,000 ft property, with over 75,000 guest overnights.
The Housekeeping Facilities Manager will be a key member of the hostel leadership and will work closely with the property General Managers and other management to ensure seamless operations and an enjoyable experience for our guests and staff. The Housekeeping Facilities Manager will be primarily responsible for leading the housekeeping and preventative maintenance team to include hiring, training, scheduling, development and employee morale and engagement. The position also has rotating MOD responsibility.
Salary range: up to 55,000 - 65,000 depending on experience.
Responsibilities:
- Represent HI USA and the hostel in a positive manner to guests, staff, vendors, and community.
- Ensure all housekeeping equipment is serviced and working properly.
- Hire, train and provide ongoing feedback to housekeeping staff.
- Manage maintenance work orders process.
- Oversee meeting room set-up.
- Maintain inventory of supplies for housekeeping department.
- Administer an online facility maintenance system for preventative maintenance (CMMS).
- Provide strong leadership to housekeeping staff; foster a positive and inclusive team environment.
- Oversee morning breakfast service and breakfast inventories.
- Lead department staff meetings.
- Review guest feedback for guest satisfaction, facility and cleanliness using online post-stay surveys.
- Coordinate housekeeping work with other hostel teams including front desk, group sales, programming, and engineering.
- Create and share in advance employee schedules, approve timesheets for payroll, and find or assist with shift coverage as needed, when short staffed.
- Conduct inspections of rooms and public spaces, ensuring both meet expectations.
- Manage in-house laundry functions.
- Support Housekeeping Supervisor to assign daily responsibilities to housekeeping staff.
- Maintain a vigorous Preventative Maintenance program for all guestrooms and public spaces.
- Utilize property management system (PMS) to schedule and track housekeeping functions.
- Assist maintenance staff on projects as needed.
- Attend and contribute to management meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by General Manager.
- Manage staff performance through annual performance evaluations and conversations.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Expected to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as business requires
- Facilities and/or maintenance experience a plus.
- Customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Hostel or experiential travel experience a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and procedure manuals.
- Competency in Microsoft applications, Net Facilities or CMMS, and experience with some property management systems
- Ability to multi-task and adjust quickly in a changing environment.
- 3+ years of housekeeping management experience.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Multilingual a plus
- Strong attention to detail.
