Job Description
Originally founded in 1991 as Harlem RBI, DREAM has grown to annually serve more than 2,500 youth across East Harlem and the South Bronx through a network of six PreK-12, extended-day, extended-year DREAM Charter Schools and community sports-based youth development programs. Through our commitment to rigorous academics, social-emotional learning, deep family and community engagement, and health and wellness, we create lifelong learners who are equipped to fulfill their vision of success in and out of the classroom. Reporting to the Director of College Programming, the ideal candidate is a reliable team player with a commitment to youth development. They will play a key role in implementing DREAM’s Grow the Whole Child model by driving excellence in Afterschool, Summer, Athletics, and Study Abroad Programming.

Responsibilities

  • Hire and manage after school, summer, and athletics program part-time staff
  • Collaborate with the Principal and School leadership to ensure alignment between school-day, afterschool and summer to maximize the impact of extended-day, extended-year programming
  • Manage execution of competitive athletics programming, including management of High School Athletics Director.
  • Lead execution of after-school, summer enrichment, athletic and study abroad programs to ensure high quality programing and strong program outcomes at DCHS
  • Manage data collection and record-keeping to ensure accurate attendance and participation data
  • Manage school-wide initiatives to ensure high school students participate and reflect on experience in meaningful summer opportunities
  • Cultivate and build partnerships with high-quality enrichment programs to increase diversity of enrichment and summer opportunities programming for high school students, including career
  • Collaborate with the Student Life team and Principal to strengthen school culture through attendance accountability, infusing joy into programming, and supporting implementation of positive youth development practices;
  • Lead the professional development of enrichment instructors; including real-time coaching and feedback
  • Lead outreach and process for enrollment and participation in all enrichment programming with participants, families, and staff

Qualifications

  • Experience collecting data and implementing data-driven practices;
  • A strong belief in the mission and values of DREAM, including the desire to make a difference in the lives of our students, families, and community.
  • Experience with building and managing partnerships
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred;
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills;
  • Strong communication skills
  • At least 3 years of youth development experience required;

Commitment

  • Summer hours: 8:00-5:00pm
  • School year hours: M-Th 10:00am-6:30pm, F 8:00am-4:30pm, additional evening and weekend hours, as needed

Compensation

  • We offer a comprehensive benefits plan, covering the majority of the employee premium for medical plans and subsidizing the majority of costs for a spouse/domestic partner and children. Other benefits include dental and vision plans, disability, life insurance, parenting benefits, flexible spending account options, generous vacation time and paid holidays, referral bonuses, professional development, an employee assistance program (EAP) and a 403(b) retirement plan with employer matching up to 4%.
  • The salary range for the incoming Student Life Director is $80,000 to $90,000. Incoming salaries are determined based on the number of years of leadership experience and internal equity. All leaders are eligible for annual performance-based salary increases. Because we value staff tenure in each role, we do not currently cap salary ranges.
