Job Description
  • High School Diploma
  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Monitor individuals and vehicles entering and leaving school property
  • Maintain a level of approachability by administration and staff
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Patrol and monitor hallways, stairwells, bathrooms and other public and unsupervised areas to ensure the safety and well-being of the students, staff and security of the building
  • Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships
  • Make contact with the public with tact and diplomacy
  • Prepare reports as required
  • Patrol and monitor premises for prevention of fire, theft, vandalism, unauthorized entry, and/or parking violation and report infractions to proper authority
  • Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
  • Adhere to federal, state, and local laws and regulations in relation to the physical control and restraint of students and staff to include those governed by the Connecticut Department of Education
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Logistics & Safety Supervisor and/or Principal
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
  • Attend professional development training as required
  • Ensure safety of students, staff and visitors
  • Assist Principal, educators, police and emergency personnel in all immediate security, safety and/or emergency needs with students, parents, and visitors as required
  • Check student hall passes, encourage and ensure all students wear identification badges
  • Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
  • Report discipline matters, suspected physical, mental and/or substance abuse to proper authorities immediately
  • Effective, active listening skills
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Bilingual in Spanish is an asset
  • Organizational and problem solving skills
  • Alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Norwalk Board of Education may find appropriate
