The Messenger is a new digital news media company, whose mission is to deliver accurate, balanced, non-partisan news and information across every vertical, from politics and business to sports and entertainment.
Location: Hybrid Capabilities in Specific Locations
Job Summary:
We are seeking a talented and passionate Health Writer to join our news organization within the Health and Wellness Team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for researching, writing, and producing high-quality health news stories, plus evergreen and seasonally topical health content.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with other departments, such as design and development, to ensure that all content is visually appealing, user-friendly, and optimized for different platforms.
- Ensure that all content is optimized for SEO and social media.
- Pitch story ideas and work with other health and wellness editors and other members of the editorial team to develop new angles and angles to existing stories.
- Publish and promote content on social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
- Monitor news wires, social media, and other sources to identify high-impact stories and trends that are relevant to our audience.
- Stay up to date on health and wellness trends, developments and policies as they surface on social media and through other channels.
- Write health news stories and evergreen health content that is engaging, accurate, informative, and rapid.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, public health, or a related field.
- Strong writing skills and the ability to produce accurate, engaging, and informative health stories.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of AP style and other editorial guidelines.
- Strong news judgment and the ability to identify stories and trends that are relevant to our audience.
- Familiarity with different CMS and editorial tools.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with covering both health news and a variety of health conditions in a way that is relatable and shareable.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a reporter, content curator, or a related role within a news organization or other fast-paced digital organization.
**Salary Requirements: $85,000-$110,000**
