Job Description
Responsibilities:
POSITION SUMMARY: The Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist II is responsible for providing HIM support in maintaining the Electronic Health Record within Tidelands Health. The HIM Specialist II will oversee the daily operations of the department and its employee partners. The HIM Record Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of Health Information related duties which supports the employee partners being supervised.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Trouble shoots and identifies documents scanned incorrectly. Problem solves to find missing documents.
  • Participates in the interviewing process and help select applicants.
  • Responds to all reported document issues that occur from other departments.
  • Responsible for the management, maintenance, and protection of the patient health information. Monitor and provide guidance to release of information processes.
  • Initiate real time scanning implementations and train staff within Tidelands Health, including mentoring new employees. Provides expertise in determining naming conventions for new documents.
  • Serves as a member of the EHR core systems upgrade team.
  • Moves documents within the EHR when identified by the discharge edit team.
  • Monitor and provide daily and monthly productivity reports.
  • Monitor scanned documents for accuracy.
REQUIRED/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: High School Diploma/GED required. Medical Terminology course required.

EXPERIENCE
: Health Information Management experience required – 2 years. Healthcare System (hospital based) preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
:
  • Ability to effectively use computer software and technology.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook (required).
  • Possess technical and critical thinking skills required to complete duties outlined.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Exemplary core customer skills required.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and release of information regulatory mandates.
