Job Description

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD (“The HARRIS CENTER”) is looking for a Group Facilitator to join our team. appointments. The group facilitator is responsible for facilitating mental health groups and educational classes to children ages 3-18 and adults ages 55 and up in the Northeast Houston area (including but not limited to Kashmere Gardens, North Forest, Humble, Aldine, Spring). In addition to facilitating groups and classes, this person will also be responsible for clinical assessments, development of recovery plans in collaboration with the treatment team and provision of services based on Trauma Informed and Patient Centered Model requirements, consumer need, and performance contract requirements. Group Facilitator may also deliver interventions such as skills training, psychosocial rehabilitative services, case management, and medication training/monitoring and supports. The ideal candidate will display compassion, empathy, education, proficiency, and experience while assisting the patient.

What you will do:

  • Participates in formulation of the consumer recovery plans in collaboration with the treatment team.
  • Conducts psychoeducational groups and classes to educate clients on their diagnoses, symptoms, and coping skills to aid in in their recovery.
  • Performs clinical assessments to determine service needs, strengths, and treatment plan goals.
  • Observes and documents client participation and behavior during psychoeducation groups and classes in progress notes.
  • Implement clinical planning of psychoeducational groups and classes.
  • Provide education to the families of the clients that are being served.
  • Interviews clients to obtain psychosocial history and current presenting problems.
  • Provides training/education on the nature of mental illness, the importance of medications, and other medication related information as outlined in The Harris Center curricula.
  • Provides skills training and psychosocial rehabilitation services that address the severe and persistent mental illness and symptom related problems that interfere with the individual’s functioning.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Minimum 1 year experience in mental health field and in facilitating mental health groups.
  • Able to work collaboratively with others in a teamwork environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year accredited college or university with a major in a social, behavioral, or human service field, including but not limited to: psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human development, gerontology, and educational psychology
  • Must be able to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must maintain a valid Texas Driver's License and be insurable under Agency policy..
  • Basic understanding of mental illness, common signs and symptoms and able to identify difficulties with coping in community settings.
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, and their families.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills. Able to execute standard word processing.
  • Strong communication skills, listening and interpersonal skills above average, written documentation is clear, concise, well- constructed and grammatically correct.
