We are seeking a Store Manager - Grocery to assist the Store Director by ensuring the smooth and efficient operations of the store, by developing and building the character of the team; focusing on better execution of programs, procedures and policies; and continually working toward creating better customer experiences to help create a long-term sustainable business. The Store Manager - Grocery is responsible for maintaining the highest store conditions by ensuring store is properly stocked and merchandised in all departments and that Associates are providing exceptional customer service.

What you'll do

Management of Store/Department Operations

• Responsible for maximizing hours of operation to provide customers with quality product and Extra Step Service
• Actively supports our Grow Every Day purpose and actions individually and with their team; uses our Purpose to help guide decisions and make it a part of who we are
• Communicates a vision for the total store and the grocery department
• Assists with controlling all variables affecting overall departments' profitability including gross margins, workers' compensation, inventory control, and operating expenses
• Provides direction and support to all team members with day-to-day operations while reinforcing Character> Process> Result

Customer Service and Customer Relations

• Demonstrates "sense of urgency" in maintaining proper service levels at all times
• Maintains a presence and visibility on the sales floor
• Follows through on customer concerns and complaints
• Ensures that customers' needs are met and exceeded daily
• Leads by example emphasizing the importance of the Dierbergs "Extra Step" philosophy
• Empowers Associates to service the customer

Management of Associates and Associate Relations

• Provides honest and timely feedback, recognition, and/or corrective action
• Responds to and resolves Associate issues including, but not limited to, schedule concerns, job performance accountability, customer complaints, conflict, and issues corrective action
• Actively coaches Managers and Associates
• Provides a positive environment, motivating others to succeed

Financials

• Continually evaluating and reviewing store expenses
• Assists in managing payroll, labor forecasting, meeting Sales Per Associate Hour goal, scheduling, projections, turnover, monitoring shrink and inventory levels
• Ensures all internal controls are in place and adhered to

What you need to succeed

• High school diploma required; college degree preferred
• Flexibility to work a variety of shifts/hours, including weekends
• Excellent leadership skills, including the ability to motivate others and foster a positive team environment
• Strong problem-solving, decision-making and conflict-management skills
• 2+ years of experience in a supervisory position in a retail, grocery, food service or hospitality environment
• Minimum of 3 years retail experience
• Previous experience as a Retail Manager - Customer Service, Assistant Store Manager, similar work experience in a comparable retail environment

• Lifting & Carrying - Up to 50 lbs occasionally & up to 20 lbs frequently
• Pushing & Pulling- Up to 90 lbs of force occasionally
• Frequent - Stand, walk, head turn, trunk bend, kneel, stoop, squat, handling, side reach, overhead reach, & power grip
