Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:
This position reports directly to the Golf Course General Manager/ Director of Agronomy. Under the GM/Director of Agronomy"s supervision, the Superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of all golf course features, equipment, and facilities. Additionally, the Superintendent supervises and directs the golf course maintenance crew. The Superintendent may serve in the General Manager"s capacity in the event of their absence. Job Responsibilities/Duties
100.00% - ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee daily operations of the Delaware Springs Golf Course.
Assist in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and any other landscaping of the golf course.
Assist in personnel management and employee safety.
Schedules work and supervises the employees in their assigned tasks/use of equipment.
Assists in the programming, repair, and maintenance of irrigations systems.
Performs or supervises the implementation of an overall turf health program. This includes aeration, topdressing, and the application of pesticides, fertilizer, and chemicals to golf course turf.
Operates an assortment of golf course equipment, including but not limited to mowers, utility vehicles, sweepers, brooms, rollers, rakes, utility vehicles, loaders, compressors, trenchers, and automobiles.
Mows golf course turf and performs daily course setup duties.
Maintains and repairs golf course equipment.
Trims and removes trees and brush.
Assists in the preparation of the annual budget for the maintenance and capital improvement projects.
Performs all golf course tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Attend continuing education opportunities as required for position.
Keep accurate and complete records on assigned tasks/projects.
Regular and punctual attendance is always required.
Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
Minimum Requirements, Certificates & Licenses
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school graduation or its equivalent
Associate degree in Turfgrass Science or a related field is preferred, but not required.
Minimum 3 years" experience in golf course maintenance management is required.
Pesticide Certificate designation or ability to obtain certification within 120 days of employment.
Must maintain required TX DL with an insurable record while employed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES -
Requires advanced knowledge of agronomy and turf grass management practices.
Thorough knowledge of the rules and strategies of the game of golf
Working knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices, and methods
Working knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations.
Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and greens; seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials.
Knowledge of irrigation system operation, repair, and maintenance.
Knowledge of required and/or necessary maintenance activities for the golf courses and facilities.
Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance procedures.
Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work for efficient utilization of staff and equipment.
Ability to perform work assignments and follow all city and departmental regulations.
Utilizes proper safety precautions and follows safety guidelines in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.
Ability to demonstrate high ethical standards, trustworthiness, and personal integrity.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to perform tasks effectively and efficiently.
Ability to plan and schedule work and implement directives without constant supervision.
Ability to present a professional appearance and conduct when representing the City.
Ability to work cooperatively and productively with supervisor, individuals, co-workers, and groups of persons at all levels of activity, contributing to a strong spirit of teamwork.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other agencies and the general public using tact, courtesy and good judgment.
