The Grid-Scale Renewables GIS team is responsible for spatial data management, visualization, and analysis in support of ENGIE North America’s utility-scale wind, solar, and battery storage platform. This GIS Specialist II will support our legal, land, engineering, delivery, origination, and operations teams on a variety of tasks across the entire portfolio. Our team is always looking for opportunities to improve our processes, develop innovative tools, and provide new offerings for our internal stakeholders so someone with creative energy will fit in well. A broad set of skills is required for this position, but specialized knowledge in GIS and database management paired with an eagerness to learn will provide a solid foundation for success.


This position is eligible to sit in Denver, CO, Houston, TX, Santa Barbara, CA, or Chicago, IL and will report to the GIS Manager, Grid-Scale Renewables.


What you’ll do:

Cartography and Spatial Analyses

  • Clearly document and communicate assumptions with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Run buildable area models for wind, solar, and battery storage preliminary site development and to confirm compliance at later stages
  • Work with project developers and land agents in coordination of land acquisition and wind turbine, solar array, and battery storage siting efforts
  • Provide mapping support for all wind, solar, and battery storage project development activities
  • Provide insight, feedback, reporting, analysis, and decision-support skills to the project team using geospatial tools
  • Generate parcel legal descriptions and exhibits to support agreement development

Database Management

  • Maintain geospatial databases with careful attention to detail and metadata tracking
  • Follow and update/maintain documentation for best practices and standard operating procedures
  • Accurately research, gather, develop, maintain, and analyze project spatial data

Web and Mobile Mapping

  • Develop new geospatial tools and dashboards to assist with mapping, GIS analysis, and grid-scale energy project development
  • Aid in the improvement and evolution of an advanced Esri ArcGIS Enterprise mapping platform
  • Carry out other duties as assigned
  • Maintain and improve mobile mapping application to support project development and engineering (ArcGIS Field Maps)

What you bring:

  • A minimum two (2) years experience with a preference for those with previous experience in ESRI ArcGIS software
  • Excellent map and data interpretation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and effectively manage projects
  • Bachelor’s degree required with a preference in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Engineering, or equivalent discipline
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team-based environment
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to shift focus quickly and efficiently between varying priorities
  • Experience using Esri ArcGIS Pro software packages
  • Interest and willingness to assist with non-GIS related activities
  • Programming experience (HTML, JavaScript, Python, SQL) a plus
  • Background working with ArcGIS Enterprise tools, including ArcGIS Portal as well as SDE and SQL Server databases is preferred
  • Experience with ArcGIS Web AppBuilder for Developers a plus
  • AutoCAD experience a plus

  • Salary Range: $59,000-$112,700 annually
