POSITION PURPOSE


This position will provide technical expertise using GIS to improve business efficiency for operations. Responsible for supporting all the departments of the operation by maintaining the GIS system, training staff, and deploying new GIS services to operations. Accountable for daily, weekly, and quarterly GIS maintenance. In addition, this position will ensure that the GIS data adheres to rigorous data standards and best practices.


Primary Duties / Responsibilities


  • Trains field staff, GIS end users, and contractors on the use and applications of GIS and other technical support systems.
  • Update GIS data using information provided in EAM systems such as CityWorks, INFOR, or KloudGin
  • Produce GIS files and outputs for mapping, engineering projects, and presentations
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the GIS including updating geometry and attributes to reflect system updates.
  • Carries out any other GIS related duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor
  • Enhances and promotes the utilization of GIS through technical support for other team members on a daily basis
  • Provides innovative uses of the GIS systems to improve workforce efficiency and optimize the management of information
  • Enhance and promote the utilization of GIS within the business unit.
  • Maintains geodatabases through routine maintenance activities such as reconcile and post, verify external database links, updating MXDs, and publishing web services.
  • Adhere to standards for GIS systems, including but not limited to databases, applications, and training programs.
  • Create and maintain web applications and dashboards to support operational needs and report to leadership.


Qualifications


Education / Experience / Background


  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Data Science, or related field
  • 3 - 5 years GIS experience; experience with ESRI Product


Knowledge / Skills / Abilities


  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience building and maintaining geometric networks or utility networks.[M(1]
  • Experience in editing and querying databases, building descriptive and cartographically sound maps, geocoding, and spatial analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, computer and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Python programming preferred, but not required.
  • The ability to solve operational problems and increase efficiency using GIS data analytics.
  • Knowledge of cartography, coordinate systems, map projections, and topology.
  • In-depth experience with ESRI’s suite of products including ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, Geodatabases, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Web App Builder, Operation Dashboards, Mobile Apps such as Field Maps, Commercial grade GPS units (i.e. Trimble, EoS etc.)
  • Sound knowledge of tools that ensure data integrity such as Data Reviewer and Attribute Assistant.
