Your Role: Provide entry and/or junior level field and technical support on environmental assessment, investigation, and remediation projects, primarily in the areas related to geology, hydrogeology, and data interpretation/ visualization. Under general supervision, plans, conducts, and supervises tasks such as fieldwork, sampling, design, construction oversight, operations, and maintenance (O&M), and report writing on environmental and engineering projects. Performs projects in accordance with RCRA, CERCLA, UST, CWA and other appropriate state and federal regulations. Reviews progress and evaluates results. Interprets and applies organization policy. Reviews progress with management. Prepares, develops, and assists in the preparation of proposals and qualification statements. Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen due to the service we provide our client.

Responsibilities:

This position will have both field and non-field related responsibilities.

  • Field work planning and preparation, drilling and monitoring well installation oversight, logging boreholes, remedial system (e.g., subsurface injections) implementation and operation and maintenance, and report preparation. Field work will also include collection, and proper documentation of environmental sampling.
  • Perform assessment, investigative, and remedial fieldwork that typically includes testing and sampling of soils, groundwater, and other media.
  • Preparation of work plans and sampling and analysis plans, drilling specifications, environmental assessment and investigation reports, and other technical documents.
  • May perform a range of tasks requiring advanced scientific, geologic, and engineering analytical techniques, including interpretation of hydrogeologic settings impacted by contamination.
  • Other duties may be assigned as determined appropriate by the supervisor based on client’s needs and candidate’s level of experience.
  • Assume supporting roles in cost proposals and marketing.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in a geosciences-related field required, Master’s degree (MS/MA) and/or hydrogeology-related academic experience preferred; 1-3 years directly related professional experience and/or training also preferred.

Perform field investigation and construction oversight that could potentially require the following: Performing strenuous fieldwork under a variety of site and adverse weather conditions; standing, crouching and sitting to facilitate operation of the equipment and collecting samples; moving earth via shovels or hand augers; lifting of pumps, other remediation equipment, cases containing equipment, sample coolers and other items weighing between 1 and 50 pounds; and potential exposure to natural (e.g., poison ivy, heat/cold), physical and chemical hazards.

Much of the work will be performed in the field and could potentially require the following:

  • Potential exposure to natural (e.g., poison ivy), physical (e.g., trips) and chemical (e.g., volatile organic compounds) hazards.
  • Field work often involves extended hours on site. Candidate must be able and available to travel via land and/or air and possess a valid drivers’ license in good standing.

Typical office work environment when not traveling and executing fieldwork. Office equipment will be provided.

Language & Communication Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required; Must be fluent in the English language.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with clients and colleagues.

Mathematical Skills: The candidate should be able to manipulate environmental and engineering data including, but not limited to, applying correction factors, converting units, conducting statistical analyses, and performing engineering calculations.

Other Skills: Strong technical, writing, and verbal communication skills required. General computer, word processing, and spreadsheet capabilities are required. Knowledge/experience in computer-based, geosciences-related, data evaluation software and/or groundwater flow/contaminant transport modeling is desirable but not necessary.

  • Direction and supervision of subcontractors and vendors.
  • Resolution of conflicts and providing solutions in a professional manner.
  • Maintenance of detailed documentation of field activities.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and environmental software including GIS.
  • The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, energetic and a team player.
