LOCATION: This position will require in-person work at the Northeast Information Center office located off-campus at 1074
East Avenue, Suite F, Chico, CA 95926.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Northeast Information Center (NEIC) is one of nine Information Centers of the California
Historical Resources Information System (CHRIS). The NEIC archives and maintains a physical and digital inventory of
archaeological and historical records and reports for an 11-county area of northeast California. The NEIC also conducts research
for clients on a fee-for-service basis. In addition, the NEIC promotes education regarding preservation of cultural resources by
working with state and federal agencies, local governments, Native American tribes, historical societies, and others in this effort.
Under the supervision of the NEIC Coordinator, responsibilities include:
- Performing a variety of routine technical duties in maintaining and supporting geographic information systems (GIS)
- Adhering to established CHRIS standards and quality control processes.
- Supporting ongoing digitization efforts of cultural resource records and reports.
- Collaborating with NEIC staff to maintain the digital inventory.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: A bachelor’s degree in Geography, Anthropology, History, or related field; OR the equivalent of
two years of college and one year of professional experience providing technical expertise in GIS administration. Experience
working with historical and archaeological datasets is desirable but not required. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities
include:
- Knowledge and experience working with Esri ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise.
- Knowledge and experience working with SQL Server.
- Ability to recognize technical problems and to solve them using professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
- Ability to meet project deadlines and understand how assigned tasks relate to project goals.
- Ability to use computer hardware, software, and other related information technologies for extended periods.
