Responsibilities
The primary purpose of the Graduate Internship is to provide an intern with relevant field experiences in their chosen field of study. One or more mentors will be assigned to the intern to provide instruction, guidance and to assess performance. The intern is responsible for observing the functions and processes of the assigned work unit. In addition, the intern may be given selected work assignments to reinforce the learning experience, to assess the performance levels and to provide benefit to the work unit. The intern will be responsible for completing all internship-related assignments and reports for both Mayo and the participating educational facility. The duration and timing of the internship will be arranged with the intern.
Interns will utilize ESRI’s ArcGIS Platform to create and modify GIS datasets; manage and maintain GIS datasets; develop and implement GIS-based analyses supporting frontline and management staff. Core responsibility includes processing and visualizing data from an AutoCAD environment and interpreting the data into an Enterprise Geodatabase environment. Spatial analysis is the dominant portion of the job duties envisioned for this position, but will be balanced with a variety of cartography, field staff support, and research and development. Mayo has invested in ESRI’s new indoor mapping solution ArcGIS Indoors, interns will be trained working with this new software and helping implement the indoor environment for buildings across the Mayo enterprise. Chosen interns will also be working with utility-based data, spatially mapping building and underground utilities and giving data robust attributes for meaningful popups for the end user.
Qualifications
The incumbent must be enrolled in a masters or graduate degree program from a college or university. Typically, this internship would occur after the student has taken most of the courses required by the graduate degree program. Where applicable - the degree program must require an internship as a graduation requirement (or offer as a credit option). Must have authorization to work and remain in the United States, without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorship now, or in the future (for example, be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident, refugee or asylee).
Current enrollment or recent graduate of undergrad or grad program in: Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, Data Science, or other related fields with strong data driven and analytical skills. School or project experience in applying GIS driven approaches/tools. Proven written and oral communication skills are essential. Courses and comfort level with at least one of the following: ESRI’s GIS Software, AutoCAD suite of products, computer programming, statistics, SQL, Python, or Arcade are essential for success. Experience with major programming languages is beneficial. Demonstrated initiative/innovation in coursework and projects. Candidates must have experience working with ArcGIS Pro.
Experience with GIS Data entry and creation from an AutoCAD environment is preferred. Experience with web application creation
