Job Description

The General Utility Technician is a position that is responsible for general labor in and around the manufacturing plant. The weekly work hours are generally 40+ hours per week. Work hours can be variable and usually involve working nights and weekends. Holiday work is required. The individual must have the ability to lift 70 pounds safely, be capable of standing, bending, and lifting for up to 12 hours per day, see (near acuity and far acuity) climb stairs often, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Responsibilities include:

Primary Role:

PSM:

Primary Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following

  • Ability to interact effectively with Maintenance Techs, PMOs, Receiving Techs, and Casing Techs;
  • Inform PMO/Resource/Coordinator on potential product quality issues;
  • Upkeep of equipment (i. e. blowing down equipment at weekly shutdown, writing work orders when needed).
  • Check product quality throughout the shift;
  • Properly document PSM checklist, startup and shutdown checklists, note outages, and report outages to resource or coordinator;
  • Must be able to climb stairs and stand on platforms to clean distribution conveyors throughout the shift;
  • Ensure cleaning utensils are properly stored and returned to the appropriate area at the end of each shift;

OTHER ROLES OUTSIDE PRIMARY ROLES DEPENDENT ON CREWING :

Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Box Drop:

  • Tasks as needed in support of the team's business needs.
  • Keep all casing lines supplied with cartons;
  • Keep adequate supply of cartons on the mezzanine to support production needs;
  • Ability to interact effectively with Maintenance Techs, PMOs, Receiving Techs, and Casing Techs;
  • Ensure unused cartons that are on the packaging floor are returned to the appropriate area at the end of each shift;
  • Immediate response to Box Maker / Box Drop downtime;
  • Sort Cartons
  • Upkeep of equipment (i.e. blowing down equipment at weekly shutdown, writing work orders when needed).
  • Must be able to lift and stack pallets (approximate weight 40 pounds each);

Preventative Controls Monitor (PCM)

  • Check splice verification sheets throughout the shift to ensure they are filled out completely and correctly
  • Primary duties will change as PCM expectations change
  • Ability to interact effectively with Maintenance Techs, PMOs, Receiving Techs, and Casing Techs;
  • Properly scorecard all splice verification sheets daily and report outages to resource or coordinator, Excel experience needed;
  • Inform resource, coordinator, and maintenance of FMD outages and follow decision tree to resolve
  • Will perform FMD wand checks on each bagmaker at the start of every shift
  • Checking ePRM for lines in override/bypass and ensuring all paperwork is complete

Sanitation: Operation of all production equipment while in the sanitation mode; safe operation and maintenance of all chemical application equipment; conducting and participating in in-house sanitation audit process; development of proper cleaning procedures; and involvement in the training and facilitation of activities involving the part-time sanitation technicians. Additionally, responsible for the maintaining of AIB rating at a minimum of 900 and assisting in the reduction of foreign matter complaints.

Casing/Break Relief: Efficient casing of all bag sized at standard machine speeds, continuous quality inspections and appropriate follow-up actions, operation and routine maintenance of vend tape machines, Take-a-Label machines; schedule attainment and film waste tracking; daily foreign matter inspections; routine lifting of up to twenty (20) pounds; sanitation of packaging room and associated equipment; perform seasoning and brand changeovers while monitoring product quality. Tasks also include, but not limited to, crewing the case department, inputting PPT data, running PPT reports and reconciling shift labor reports.
