General Manager

Ketchikan, AK

$90,000+ DOE

This position is responsible for three different business areas, including a restaurant and a fishing charter operation.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication and organizational skills, strong leadership competencies, ability to be assertive as required, be customer focused and have exemplary time management skills.

Would you like to:

  • Lead scoping and budgeting for new projects
  • Oversee operations, including budgets, material contracts, capital expenditures, and other operating items
  • Interact with key customer accounts to ensure fair pricing and customer satisfaction
  • Set and balance team schedules to preclude and manage burnout from key positions
  • Be responsible for new hires and terminations throughout the course of business
  • Oversee and manage customer and employee feedback loops to foster culture of continuous improvement
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Communicate and obtain proper MD approvals before making significant changes to the business
  • Develop growth plans in conjunction with Managing Director (MD)
  • Represent the ownership group and oversee all operations of the business
  • Responsible for professional development of full-time staff
  • Manage relationships between company and key suppliers, vendors, customers, and partners
  • Staff the company inclusive of staffing up in the high season and responsibly staffing down in the low season

Ideally you have:

  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt quickly to changing situations
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a management role in the tourism sector (preferred)
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience in a management role in the tourism sector (preferred)
  • Dependable and flexible as well as possessing the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Knowledge of local market dynamics, including current and future trends in demographics, job growth, economic drivers, travel industry dynamics, as well as any other market forces.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and succinctly to a variety of audiences inclusive of management team, customers, and other team members
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project and project management software
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to make good decisions based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience and judgement
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize responsibilities
  • Ability to work well with a team and develop A-Players
  • Familiarity and working knowledge of Microsoft Office product required
  • Demonstrated ability to lead an organization and ensure accountability, motivation, and success
  • Valid Alaska Driver’s License
