This person should have experience in overseeing business operations as well as human resources, finance, and communications. The ideal candidate will be an expert communicator who has a strong ability to delegate responsibility and collaborate across a range of departments. Ultimately, the general manager should be driven by a desire to lead our business to maximum productivity and efficiency.

REPORTS TO: CFO/Vice President

MANAGER FLSA STATUS: Exempt

PURPOSE: Assumes responsibility and is accountable for customer retention and the profitability of each department in the dealership on behalf of the dealer. Fulfills responsibility using sound business management practices. Plans, motivates and coordinates the activities of the management team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Meets with managers individually to develop monthly and annual goals and objectives, and to review actual performance.
  • Maintain project timelines to ensure tasks are accomplished effectively.
  • Monitors the daily operating control (DOC), recommending improved courses of action where necessary.
  • Plans dealership operations for the coming year and submits to the dealer for approval.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain budgetary and resource allocation plans.
  • Provides dealer with accurate weekly reports on the financial condition of the dealership.
  • Delegate responsibilities to the best-qualified employees and enforce all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines, training programs, and cultural values.
  • Recruit, onboard, and train high-performing employees to achieve objectives for sales, profitability, and market share.
  • Ensures that the monthly financial statement is complete, accurate and submitted on time to the factory.
  • Directs and monitors all dealership management or supervisory personnel functions and completes formal performance evaluations of all department managers at regularly scheduled intervals.
  • Attends monthly operation meetings.
  • Develops and maintains a good working relationship with lending institutions and manufacturer personnel.
  • Communicates management policies and procedures to all employees and ensures that they are understood and followed.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, assign weekly performance goals and ensure their completion, and accomplish your own goals.
  • Holds regularly scheduled managers meetings to ensure that every department is operating efficiently and profitably.
  • Resolves any customer complaints that department managers are unable to rectify.
  • Coordinates with the business office to ensure that records and analyses are maintained accurately.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
  • Develops merchandising strategies and assists in creating effective, cost-efficient advertising programs.
  • Reviews and approves compensation plans for all employees.
  • Provides enthusiastic leadership to help shape employees' attitudes and build morale.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong working knowledge of operational procedures.
  • Ability to motivate and lead employees and hold them accountable.
  • Proven ability to develop and achieve financial plans.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a GM luxury dealership role.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and delegation skills.
  • Proven success in a managerial role.
  • Strong decision-making ability.
