Job Description
Under the direction of the area leader, and assistant supervisors, general laborers will be responsible for assisting production in the dumping of strawberries, filling of drums, crate and drum washing, as well as other duties to aide in the packaging of our fruit. This is a seasonal position, with ups and downs in production volume. Hours will be based on fruit availability. The position may require working a few hours a week to extended overtime during peak season.
GENERAL LABOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Move stacks of 10-13 crates towards oneself by shifting the edges alternately.
2. Continuously dump crates of strawberries into a machine
3. Place empty crate on the conveyor belt to be washed in the crate washer.
4. Must adhere to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) even while working outside the facility.
5. Must be able to communicate with the receivers, forklift drivers and management when fruit is high in defect.
6. Responsible for setting the pace for the fruit inspection. A crate should be dumped slowly into the shaker washer and then tapped to get any fruit stuck in the edges. This should be repeated every 5 to 10 seconds.
7. Must operate the pallet roller lever to bring pallets of full crates towards the pallet mover.
8. Must move the empty wood pallets and set them aside on the ground. A stack of 4 or 5 should be made and then must start over from ground level.
9. Must work safely around forklifts and watching crates as they move forward on the pallet mover. If the crates are unstable, he/she must ask for help and not endanger his/herself.
10. Able to keep up with production so that the Filler always has a drum and know how to fill out the lot code recording sheet.
11. Able to adjust the drum liner so that the liner does not come out of the drum when filling, and able to push the drums along the conveyor to the Filler so that they always have a drum to fill.
12. Able to read and record accurate tare weights, and ability to operate the filler.
13. Able to follow written instructions, diagrams, and read labels. Understanding of basic math concepts.
14. Must be willing to rotate throughout all general labor stations.
15. Must learn to operate the palletizer, and other machinery.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Must be able to understand simple instructions and carry them out.
2. Must work well with other departments to reach the common goal of quality.
3. Hand and visual coordination are required for position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Requires standing, during an eight+ hour shift, on a metal platform. Frequent overtime/extended hours during peak season.
2. Area of work may require constant lifting (18-22 lbs)
3. Requires constant hand, finger and wrist movement.
4. Requires reaching overhead with hands and arms- up to six feet in height.
5. Requires constant bending at and below the waist.
6. Requires some walking up and down stairs,.
7. Requires the ability to lift and push up to 50 lbs.
8. Continual exposure to wet and/or humid conditions.
9. Occasionally exposed to vibration and outdoor weather conditions.
10. Must wear eye and ear protection and any required PPE
11. Ability to become trained as a chemical handler.
12. Must be flexible to adjust to changing work schedule due to the nature of the business, as the product and it's sourcing may be affected by weather conditions, and other factors beyond our control.
13. Must be available to work all shifts: day, night, and graveyard. Daily assignment will be based on business needs, qualifications, and seniority.
Compensation Base Rate
$16.50/hour to $16.91/hour
