Veterinarian
Kaua`i Humane Society (KHS) is looking for a self-motivated veterinarian skilled in working with a diverse team of professionals and providing high quality medical care in a fast-paced environment. The candidate must demonstrate an aptitude in shelter medicine and surgical proficiency. The position provides prompt and quality veterinary services to all animals within KHS’s care and at public clinics. This position will work closely and collaborate with the lead shelter veterinarian to provide preventative care at the low-cost Community Care Center (at the shelter and mobile) and medical care to the approximately 2,500 dogs and cats that enter KHS each year. KHS has been saving more that 90% of the population for the past three years and takes pride in putting animal welfare first. The schedule is a flexible 4-day, ten-hour shifts, or 5-day, 8-hour shifts depending on the needs of the shelter. - Examine animals returning from foster care and coordinate with the Foster
- Start and complete medical treatment and prescriptions for shelter animals.
- Perform high volume spay and neuter surgeries on dogs and cats with
- Perform pre-surgical exams on animals to determine if they are healthy
not approved for surgery.
- Perform additional minor surgeries including, but not limited to: growth
necessary amputations.
- Manage complications and/or emergencies that arise from surgical
- Collaborate with the Community Care Center Manager to assure that public
- Practice low stress, fear free handling protocols.
- Assist with the review and creation of medical, surgical, pain management,

- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, i.e., Veterinary
accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on
Education (AVMA).
- Must have a current, valid license that allows the practice of veterinary
