A Foreman Trainee position presents the exciting learning opportunity for you to use your talents and energy to supervise a maintenance team at one of our garages. In coordination with the Maintenance Training department, a Foreman Trainee gets the instructional as well as hands on experience they will need to successfully complete the training program.
Foreman Trainee - Garages (Northern Garages - Fairview, Jersey City, Paterson, North Bergen, Oradell, Wayne and Westwood)
Main Functions:
- Responsible for monitoring the timeliness and completeness of the revenue collection system, including proper vaulting procedures and reporting procedures
- This position operates 24/7 and will require flexibility with shift scheduling
- Assists Foreman I in enforcing work rules, safety, and cleanliness standards, and monitor the condition of the facility and equipment
- Monitors workforce at assigned locations to coordinate maintenance activities and cleanup activities and to ensure equipment is inspected in accordance with NJ TRANSIT maintenance standards
- Assists Foreman in coordinating with other Foremen and Transportation staff at the garage, the Control Center, and at other garages to ensure that road calls are properly handled, and that pull-outs go smoothly
- Assists Foreman in supervising employees on assigned shifts, including assigning and reviewing work to ensure sufficient, clean, and safe vehicles are available for pull-out
- Supervises stock room, authorizes special orders, issues materials, and ensures security and accurate accounting of stock
Education and Experience:
- Completion of an automotive program from an accredited Technical, or Trade School required
- One or more years of automotive, bus, or heavy diesel work experience can substitute for completion of automotive program at an accredited Technical or Trade School
- High School Diploma or equivalent required

Working Environment:
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Fast paced garage/warehouse work environment
- Garages are highly noisy/ loud, contain dirt and dust and open at all times with exposure to extreme temperatures during different seasons
- Exposure to equipment, machinery/vehicles, chemicals and other hazardous materials
Physical Demands and Other Conditions:
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, kneel and bend throughout the workday
- Must be able to pass NJ TRANSIT’s pre-employment physical
- NJ TRANSIT Bus Garages are open 24/7 and 365 days, shifts and schedules can vary and may include nights, weekends and holidays as required or assigned
- Perform tasks which may include heavy physical labor such as lift and carry heavy items
