Job Description

Duties

Duties include but is not limited to:

  • Instructs subordinates on difficult work operations.
  • Possesses knowledge on the correct foods to be served on modified diets.
  • Requisitions all supplies needed for the different areas in food service.
  • Spot checks the activities in all areas where meals and nourishment supplies are distributed to ensure quality and timeliness standards are met.
  • Completes the tray assembly area report.
  • Provides instruction in correct sanitation and cleaning procedures, such as how to mop a floor, how to clean stainless steel, etc.
  • Monitors and ensures that the proper procedures are communicated and carried
  • Provides individual and/or group instruction for employees in the correct care and maintenance of food service equipment.
  • Changes work plans, work assignments and work methods as necessary to reduce or control costs and accomplish the work.
  • Conducts all quality assurance monitors and sanitation reviews in accordance with established procedures.
  • Oversees work performance of employees, discusses work performance and issues, and provides guidance.
  • Conducts final check of trays to ensure correct foods, temperature and portions as appropriate.
  • Recognizes typical health and safety hazards for yourself and other workers around you.
  • Responsible for efficient overall sanitation throughout all food production service areas.
  • Provides guidance and assistance for lower grade employees in making decision when assembling patient trays.
  • Reviews work while in progress or on completion to ensure the correct portion sizes, serving dishes, etc., have been used.
  • Maintains inventory of food service supplies and equipment. Receives and inspect food deliveries.
  • Makes recommendations for the purchase of small equipment and supplies to ensure that the appropriate materials are available to do the job.
  • Supervises the food service activities of production and service areas to ensure proper work methods are utilized.
  • Conducts menu conferences and completes assignment schedules as required.
  • Ensures employees adhere to safety policies and procedures when performing manual work involving lifting, carrying, transporting and delivering food or other items.
  • Estimates food and beverages use/consumption to anticipate amounts to be purchased.
  • Carries out the responsibilities of the position within general instructions, standard procedures and established policies.
  • Ensures that all food supply items required are available for meeting the meal service schedule.
Work Schedule: 5:30am - 2:00pm - 6:00am - 2:30pm or 6:30am - 3:00pm; 1130am - 8:00pm Rotating weekends and holidays;
Subject to change depending on the needs of the agency.
Position Description Title/PD#: Food Service Worker Supervisor/PD99816S
Physical Requirements: Work requiring light to moderate physical effort. It may be required to perform heavy work, such as scouring and scrubbing large size cooking utensils and pushing heavy carts and trucks in unloading, storing, and delivering supplies. They are subject to continuous standing and walking, and frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. May be required to work on ladders and use powered cleaning equipment. They frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted and occasionally lift or move objects weighing more than 40 pounds with the assistance of others.
Working Conditions: The work is performed in kitchen areas where the steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment often cause uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity. The work area is well-lighted but usually noisy from food service activities, and there is danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been dropped. Food service workers are regularly exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezing units.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
