Job Duties:

Richard Bland College (RBC) is a two-year, residential, liberal arts transfer institution that focuses on preparing students for transfer to highly-ranked colleges and universities. The College is a hidden gem located outside the Tri-Cities region—and its rural setting featuring 750+ acres of wetlands, bucolic forest, and the state’s oldest and largest pecan grove.

Richard Bland College of William & Mary is currently recruiting a Food Service Worker. The incumbents will prepare and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner for up to 1,000 guests daily; open kitchen, set up equipment, prepare cafeteria for service. Ensure cleaning and sanitization of all workspaces, equipment, and utensils. Properly maintain all equipment; sweep and mop floors, clean common spaces, and ensure a safe and tidy dining room area. Collaborate with other food service workers, college officials and staff to identify and correct problems. Prepare or service catering and other special events as needed. The incumbent will be required to open and close the cafeteria on weekdays /weekends. Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and work cooperatively with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, coworkers, vendors and the general public with courtesy, tact, patience and consistency.
  • Must be able to work in fast-paced environment to meet food preparation and food serving schedules for large numbers of individual patrons/customers and groups;
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule;
  • Considerable knowledge of a food preparation operation, including the operation of modern food service equipment, proper sanitation practices and federal and state health and nutrition requirements;
  • Must have the ability to apply the principles and practices of safely serving food, with a high attention to detail and attractive presentation of food items;
  • Must have experience in restaurant operations and applications supporting high food quality;

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience providing guidance and direction to others in teachable environment;
  • Experience independently reading, comprehending, and applying cooking instructions to recipes.
  • ServSafe Certification is preferred;
