Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth. To prepare food for residents in accordance with master menu guidelines and to maintain kitchens and dining areas in a clean, sanitary, and safe manner.
Upon hire, new employees to the Commonwealth of Virginia will be offered a sign-on bonus in the amount of $1,000 paid in one installment.

Minimum Qualifications

Working knowledge of overall food production. Knowledge of correct methods of storage and inventory. Knowledge of correct nutritional standards and how they are to be enforced. Knowledge of proper cleaning and sanitizing techniques. Demonstrated ability to forecast needs for food products and to fully utilize any leftover foods. Ability to supervise juveniles. Ability to read, writes, follow and give directions.

Preferred Qualifications:

High School or equivalent and experience working in an institutional or other large-volume food service are preferred.
