Are you looking for an on-campus job that accommodates your class schedule? The University of New Mexico Dean of Students Office is seeking a self-motivated, friendly, reliable, and detail oriented individual to assist the Basic Needs Specialist in the Lobo Food Pantry. Food Pantry Assistants are a central part of a collaborative and dynamic team that is passionate about ending student hunger and its root causes on campus. Within this position, students gain experience in food insecurity solutions and development in advocacy efforts. Food Pantry Assistants will monitor the Lobo Food Pantry during regular open hours, assist professional staff in campus food donation collection, assist with bi-weekly food donation truck deliveries from Roadrunner Food Bank and connect students with campus and local basic needs resources. Student staff can expect to work an average of 15-20 hours per week. Position will begin during Summer 2023.


Duties and Responsibilities


Daily Tasks

  • Refer students in need of additional resources to the Basic Needs Specialist
  • Monitor- client check-in and basic data tracking
  • Enforce pantry guidelines including basket weight, item limits, current enrollment, etc.
  • Maintain a clean atmosphere in the pantry; cleans and sanitizes scales, baskets, and facilities
  • Organize and face inventory
  • Collect liability waivers

Periodic Tasks

  • Misc. job-related duties as assigned
  • Collect donations from campus and community donors
  • Unload and inspect food deliveries from Roadrunner Food Bank
  • Relay changes in visitation, service requests, and feedback from the campus community
  • Replenish inventory from storage
  • Support program data collection; may perform basic data entry tasks
  • Research support services

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

You will be great for this position if you have:

  • Must be able to lift boxes and supplies up to 40lbs and operate basic moving equipment
  • The ability to work independently and/or without supervision.
  • The ability to follow specific instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Must be able to maintain work-study eligibility
  • An interest in student services and food rescue.
  • Strong time management skills; specifically, the ability to manage deadlines and be punctual.
  • The ability to focus and maintain composure under pressure.
  • Sensitivity and an understanding demeanor.
  • A collaborative and approachable interpersonal manner.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Superb customer service skills.
