Job Description

What's the role about?


You will be part of the Finance Management Team, reporting to the Head of Finance and leading the Financial Planning and Reporting team.


You Will Be Accountable For


  • Ensuring the team provides advice to decision makers to ensure financial resources (cash, investments and assets) are optimised for the delivery of strategic aims.
  • Providing assurance framework to demonstrate that effective and efficient financial processes and systems are employed and to identify continuous and/or step change improvement thereof.
  • Building relationships with staff to ensure that financial support is provided at the optimal point in planning and delivery of work plans including projects.
  • Providing short, medium and long term financial planning systems and processes to ensure an effective and efficient use of financial resources.
  • Developing and motivating a high-performance team to maximise their ability to influence the effective use of resources.
  • Monitoring and reporting of financial performance and indicators to staff, volunteers and trustees in order to understand and advise on the positive and negative impact on financial plans and resource allocation.


You Will Be Responsible For


  • Jointly, as part of the Finance Management Team, for the prioritisation of objectives and allocation of resources within the Finance Department to deliver a co-ordinated plan of development and improvement for the Finance Department.
  • Working with the owners of relevant RSPB frameworks (e.g. Operating, Decision Making and Project Management Frameworks) to integrate financial guidance to align corporate behaviour.
  • Integrating the RSPB values and culture into financial planning and reporting systems and processes to support the RSPB ways of working.
  • Supporting colleagues in the Finance Management Team to enable them to successfully deliver their aligned objectives.
  • Aligning the team with other Finance teams and staff involved in financial planning and reporting outside the Finance Department to ensure efficient use of staff time on financial matters.


Essential Skills, Knowledge And Experience


  • Work planning to manage customer expectations.
  • Experience building team capacity and capability to innovatively respond to the changing needs of the business.
  • Experience developing efficient and effective financial planning and reporting systems and processes.
  • Relationship building skills
  • Successful delivery of projects using sound methodology, techniques and appropriate use of team skills.
  • Knowledge of charity finance legislation.
  • UK Qualified accountant
  • Coaching and mentoring to develop a team and to support peers.
  • Management accounting knowledge
  • Ability to influence decision makers through sound logic, diplomacy and assertiveness.
  • Knowledge of accounting standards and guidelines relating to the commercial and charity sector.
  • Creativity in identifying options and solutions for financial matters.
  • Experience creating and communicating a compelling vision for directing and motivating a team.
  • Ability to convey complex financial information to audiences of varying financial experience.


Desirable Skills, Knowledge And Experience


  • Financial management, reporting and control frameworks, within a medium sized (£100m+) organisation


This is a Permanent role for 37.5 hours per week.
