Job Description
Overview:

Kaufman Dolowich LLP, a growing national law firm, dedicated to providing the highest quality of services to our clients, is seeking candidates for a Legal Assistant position based out of its Dallas, TX office.


As a hybrid you will work in the capacity of a Legal File Clerk and a Jr. Legal Assistant. This individual will organize all office documents so that documents are easily accessible when requested by lawyers and paralegals. This individual supports the productive operations of the office by maintaining all files in an organized manner so that they can be efficiently distributed in hard copy and digital format for firm and client use. This individual will provide support to assigned attorneys and provide backup to other attorneys as requested. This individual is responsible to assist with administrative tasks as it relates to the specific office and attorneys to contribute to efficient office operations. This position requires strict confidentiality.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • E-filing in State and Federal courts (Court of Appeals if necessary).
  • Assists with trial preparation and
  • Assists with Overflow Keep up with court/judge’s rules and filing procedures.
  • Communicate with opposing parties, court staff and vendors (court reporters) regarding various issues, such as scheduling meetings, depositions, hearings, mediations, conference calls, etc.
  • Prepares/finalizes discovery shells and production back-up (propounded and/or responses).
  • Drafts simple pleadings and correspondence.
  • Answers telephones taking detailed messages.
  • Court runs as necessary.
  • Prepares court filings (make copies for filing, service copies, prepare attorney service order slip).
  • Prepares, edits and proofreads a variety of documents (correspondence, agreements and pleadings).
  • Creates Masters for new files, process closed files
  • Other duties, as needed, to support KDV and office operations.
  • Assist with IT issues, maintain printers and printing supplies.
  • Download materials from media devices, record upkeep and filing for all matters.
  • Process all incoming correspondence; U.S. Mail, Overnight Courier, and Hand Deliveries.
  • Prepares documents for mandatory e-filing for State and Federal courts (create pdf file; convert pdf file to a searchable document; bookmark all exhibits).
  • Maintains calendars, track deadlines and status of cases/matters, and update attorneys on court deadlines.
  • Handles outgoing and incoming mail/FedEx for assigned attorneys (calendar any related deadlines, court appearances, meetings, mediations, etc.).
Qualifications:
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Teamwork oriented.
  • Experience with a previous file management system is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office - Word, Excel and Outlook). Must have intermediate to advanced technical skill in Microsoft Office and handle all digital media.
  • Proficient with computers and online data.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and principles.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion with limited guidance.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to analyze legal documents and ensure accuracy.
