This job requires a high degree of interpersonal skills with the ability to multitask, drive change, make mature judgment calls, and manage production using the computer management system. Responsible for making assignments; facilitating staff meetings; training employees; entering and reviewing work orders; maintaining time and attendance records; reviewing and creating data and reports; responding to complaints; directing crews at work locations; ensuring compliance with safety rules and regulations; performing the most complex and difficult work assignments; and ensuring that equipment is maintained. As a leader, you are also expected to develop staff through training, education, & performance management. The successful incumbent will have a mature understanding & practical application of basic leadership principles, decision making, & maturely dealing with employee relations issues.
Must be willing to work during all types of weather and participate in ongoing rotational stand-by/recall duty. Overtime is required when responding to emergencies. Staff is scheduled for ongoing rotational stand-by/recall duty.
- Performs the most complex and difficult work assignments; troubleshoots the most complex and escalated issues; and schedules repairs by outside vendors.
- Reviewing and updating routes for efficiency evaluating meter reading upload processes for effectiveness.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
- Coordinates the preparation of and/or prepares, reviews, and/or maintains reports, records, work orders, logs, and documents; updates and maintains databases and online systems; reviews work prepared by staff; identifies and resolves discrepancies; and ensures work is accurate, complete and in compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Reviewing meter readings for discrepancies and initiating corrective action.
- Developing operational procedures; and troubleshooting hardware and software.
- Monitors supply inventory and equipment levels; determines materials needed; researches price and vendor information; makes and/or approves procurement recommendations
- Coordinates with vendors, contractors, City departments, and/or external agencies to order supplies; provides technical assistance; assists with planning departmental operations; assists with implementing projects; and responds to and handles escalated and the most complex customer service issues.
- Supervising the installation and removal of meters as well as the performance of manual meter reads.
- Coordinates field unit operations related to collection and/or distribution system maintenance and contract work; supervises staff including planning, assigning, and evaluating work; convenes and facilitates staff meetings; trains and coaches employees; directs crew operations at work locations; ensures that equipment is maintained; and ensures compliance with safety and applicable operational rules and regulations.
- Must complete job related and/or safety training based on assignment, such as (but not limited to) lock out/tag out, confined space entry, ladder safety, respirator and emergency evacuations training.
- North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License; CDL Tanker Endorsement, If a candidate does not have the Tanker endorsement, they will be given up to 1 (one) year to obtain this endorsement
- A valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record and license obtained within the time frame specified by the City.
- Previous Lead or supervisory experience.
- Three years of equipment operation/driving experience or maintenance experience related to assignment,
- Associate’s degree or equivalent
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:
- North Carolina Grade III Wastewater collections (IV is preferred)
- Required Certifications: North Carolina Grade B Water Distribution (an A is preferred)
**Please note that for Certification equivalents: Out-of-state candidates will have one year to apply, test and obtain the NC version of the certification**
