Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW

Workdays & Hours: Monday - Thursday 6:00 am - 4:30 pm*

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Plans, coordinates and directs the activities of groups of workers within the same department.
  • Analyzes and resolves staff, equipment and operating problems.
  • Recommends changes to increase efficiency; implements approved changes.
  • Assists with daily operations tasks as needed; drives city vehicle.
  • Trains new employees.
  • Prepare, coordinate, update and/or refer work orders to the appropriate entity.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters or records boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management Position at the Tier I Level.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a High School Diploma or a GED.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four years of progressively responsible work experience in the maintenance field are required.
A Bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for the experience requirement.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
May require a valid Texas Class "C" driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.

PREFERENCES

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. **
