Job Description

The Facilities HVAC Technician I – Apprentice is responsible for performing a variety of routine semi-skilled and skilled work related to HVAC maintenance and equipment operation.

Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of a Technical and/or Administrative Superior

$29.46 - $37.31 per hour plus benefits (see benefits tab on posting).

As an applicant for this position, you should be aware of Senate Bill 19-085, the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The act requires employers to announce the pay range for job openings. This range encompasses the nine pay steps available should you receive the position and demonstrate satisfactory performance over time. The starting pay is $29.46.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Ability to use diagnostic and service equipment including but not limited to voltmeter, amp meter, vacuum gauges, digital thermometer and air hood.
  • Ability to read and interpret HVAC equipment wiring diagrams and control schematics.
  • Perform maintenance, i.e. check out, repair/replace, start-up, rooftop equipment, make-up air units, exhaust fans, energy recovery ventilators, chillers, boilers, exhaust fans, unit heaters, variable air volume terminals, zoning dampers, dampers, actuators, furnace, fan coils, belts, heat pumps, condensers and commercial appliances to include; kitchen and laundry equipment/appliances cooktops, dishwashers, steamers, kettles, ovens, washers, dryers, etc.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned
  • Perform overall HVAC maintenance support for all county buildings
  • Working knowledge of installing soft copper and ACR copper refrigeration piping using proper soldering/brazing techniques.
  • Document and/or log all data related to the completion of work orders in a thorough, accurate and timely manner.
  • Read and interpret basic details in blueprints, specifications, and sequence of operation and instructions, product installation, engineering, and owner’s manuals.
  • Perform final low voltage wiring, controls wiring, control’s final tie in’s, and terminations.
  • Perform snow removal operations using hand tool, shovels, scrapers, blowers, utility vehicles, and/or tractors.
  • May be required to be on-call status during hours other than normal shift hours and perform related work as required; to include snow removal.
  • Effectively communicate current and anticipated problems to supervisor.
  • Ability to safely operate a vehicle in routine conditions.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

Required Experience:

  • Minimum one year of residential, commercial, or industrial repair/service experience.

Preferred Licenses/Certifications:

  • EPA Section 608 Technician Certification (Type I, Type, II, Type III, or Type Universal), a plus.
  • None

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Must pass, and maintain the ability to pass, a thorough background check at any time during employment with Weld County.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License and have a good driving record.
  • Required to work in Secure and Non-secure Detention Facilities

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos and reports.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and too draw and interpret graphs.

  • Ability to function independently as well as in a team environment to complete all necessary duties
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but straight forward written and/or oral instructions.
  • Ability to utilize reference skills to locate accurate information quickly with minimal resource.
  • Ability to respond to and solve problems involving several concrete variables in standard situations.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to:

  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; be able to push, pull, carry or maneuver heavier items (with additional manpower or appropriate devices); carry/work from ladders; work from heights, work in small crawl spaces.
  • Talk, hear, walk and stand on concrete floors with variety of floor coverings and will be required to use multiple flights of stairs between floors.
  • Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Frequently be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions; is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, risk to electrical shock and vibration.
  • Have correctable vision to see things up close, clearly and the ability to differentiate color
