Description
Job Overview
The Director, Student Affairs, will provide leadership in the Department of Student Affairs, which serves as a customer service organization dedicated to supporting an equitable educational experience for all students.
Position Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Parent Concerns and Communication
  • Receive and handle all Level Two complaints by working with the assigned administrator once the Superintendent has appointed a hearing officer
  • Assist parents with complaints, including tracking and monitoring interactions with parents.
  • Nurture two-way communication between the District and parents
  • Track and monitor all FNG (Local) Student/Parent Complaints at Levels One through Three
  • Receive and handle all Level One FNG Complaints by either hearing the complaint or assigning the complaint to another appropriate administrator
Laws, Policy and Procedures
  • Work with Legal Department to review the Student Code of Conduct and the Student/Parent Handbook annually
  • Assist with professional development activities for administrators regarding student affairs
  • Provide parents greater access to district information, processes, and procedures to support a positive learning experience
  • Manage all aspects of the District’s student transfers policy and procedures
  • Assist the Legal Department with legislative updates and policy/procedure changes as necessary
  • Provide consistent, District-wide application of student-related policy and procedures
  • Assist campus leaders with policy and procedures related to student concerns
  • Work closely with the Legal Department as necessary regarding policy and procedure and other student-related items
Truancy Prevention and Intervention
  • Work with Fort Bend County caseworkers and officials to ensure collaboration between the school district and the county
  • Support enforcement of the Texas compulsory attendance law through supervision of the District’s Student Attendance Specialists
Discipline Monitoring and Placements
  • Work closely with the District DAEP campuses
  • Review and monitor student discipline reports that will enable district and campus leaders to analyze and respond to demonstrated patterns or concerns
  • Act as the District’s hearing officer for student expulsion placements at the JJAEP
  • Work with campus principals to determine mandatory and discretionary DAEP placements and expulsions
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Assist in the process of recruiting, screening, interviewing, and hiring of assigned staff
  • Plan, assign and direct work of assigned staff
  • Create applicant pools for campus principals when necessary.
  • Initiate personnel actions including documentation and termination under the guidance of Human Resources
  • Conduct performance appraisals of assigned staff

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Valid Texas Mid-Management or Principal Certification
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, policies and procedure
  • Master's Degree in educational administration or appropriate field
  • Minimum of 5 years campus administrator experience and/or district leadership
  • Doctorate Degree preferred
  • Excellent skills in oral and written communication with emphasis on customer service

Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
Additional Information
  • This position requires travel between campuses and district buildings is required as well as travel to out-of-district meetings, conferences and workshops.
