Job Description

Executive Director-Athletics


:


  • Create all documents related to athletics with a professional format.
  • Generate funding for the department and campuses through advertising space on scoreboards, facilities, etc.
  • Ensure that each student is provided the opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity.
  • Prepare departmental press releases for game programs and handle all relationships and information requests from members of local, regional, and national media.
  • Maintain an active athletic program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development; ensure that student progress is evaluated on a regular, systematic basis, and the findings are used to make the athletic program more effective.
  • Develop a marketing plan to promote the Athletics Department.
  • Manage central athletic staff for effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Develop and implement department plan of action.
  • Coordinate the approval and use of all central athletic facilities by Dallas ISD Schools and the availability and use of all central athletic facilities by non-school groups in collaboration with the District Real Estate Department.
  • Directly involved in the selection, approval, and appointment of Campus Athletic Coordinators.
  • Coordinate and negotiate contracts with radio stations and other media to ensure that athletic events are publicized in the local market.
  • Interpret and enforce UIL and district rules and regulations regarding interscholastic competition and eligibility.
  • Direct and oversee all district athletic program and centralized athletic complexes.
  • Oversee the preparation and approval of all interscholastic game schedules, transportation, lodging, meals for out-of-town athletic events, management of district athletic events including ticket sales, employing game officials and stadium workers, ensuring preparation of facilities, process of reconditioning and repairing of athletic equipment where applicable.
  • Develop systems and processes for eligibility, hiring, student injuries, coaching requirements, and other athletics related issues.
  • Facilitate and encourage community and parent involvement in athletic activities.
  • Work closely with the Department of Human Resources and the campus administrators to ensure that all coaching vacancies are filled with highly qualified individuals.
  • Collaborate with other district departments on related issues, such as transfers, enrollment, etc.
  • Prepare and administer operational budget to ensure the needs of all school athletic departments are met and the departments function within the prescribed budget.
  • Provide information about available sports to students and parents.


Qualifications:


  • Train, coach, model and monitor educational programs.
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of state and UIL rules, policies, and regulations governing athletics.
  • Required Valid Texas Teacher Certificate with Physical Education endorsement or related endorsement or mid-management/principal certification.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage and supervise central athletics staff.
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze facts and exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position.
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from district personnel, parents and the general public.
  • Required 5+ years of experience Teaching and Coaching.
  • Evidence of strong written and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of overall operations of an athletic program.
  • Required 2+ years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Demonstrates budget experience.
  • Required Master's Degree from accredited university in Physical Education or Sports Management or a directly related field.
  • Possess strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
