Job Description
As the Executive Director in Missouri, you will cultivate important relationships with stakeholders across the state to advance rootEd’s mission and build out the state’s infrastructure and systems. While the organization is not new, it is still evolving so your experience in a start-up or building a program from scratch will be very valuable. If you are an entrepreneurial, data-driven leader who has a passion for helping high school students attain their dreams then this is the job for you!

In the Executive Director role, you will:

  • Lead a high performing team by recruiting, onboarding, training, supervising, and evaluating the performance of staff. Establish objectives and define results required for direct reports in support of the strategic business goals and assist them in developing effective strategies for the program. Coach, inspire, and enable staff to effectively perform and work with other departments. Prior experience as an executive director or head of an organization is preferred.
  • Build a long-term vision, goals, and strategic plan for the rootEd Missouri initiative, including a plan to scale the program in partnership with critical stakeholders.
  • Identify and elevate the evidence-based strategies that improve post-secondary readiness and attainment for Missouri school students based on program data.
  • Create a communication plan and systems to introduce the program and maintain investment in the program across all critical stakeholders, including school district leaders, professional organizations, and community leaders.
  • Represent the state with a broader national audience, working in partnership with other state directors to build a cohesive national model and share best practices.
  • Manage the rootEd Missouri budget and all subcontracts.
  • Support Missouri rootEd sites and meet stakeholders to advance the rootEd Missouri initiative. This may include attending school functions, serving on committees, and attending community events.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to write and present clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven track record of project execution and attainment of performance goals.
  • Experience in policy analysis and strategy development.
  • Experience in a nonprofit or a grant-based organization, especially one focused on education and workforce development, preferred.
  • Experience building and managing relationships across a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • A command presence with a confident and professional demeanor balanced by empathy.
  • Self-starter with entrepreneurial experience and the ability to successfully solve complex problems, handle multiple priorities, and work in a deadline-driven environment with limited support staff or supervision.
  • A minimum of seven years of experience in a leadership role conducting grassroots efforts to lead, build, and support an organization, including developing and implementing new programs and partnerships.
  • A minimum of five years of experience managing staff, including attracting, training, establishing performance expectations, and retaining top talent.
