Mission:


DC Justice Lab is a Black-led team of law and policy experts researching, organizing, and advocating for large-scale changes to the District’s criminal legal system. We develop strategies and solutions that are evidence-driven, community-rooted, and racially just. We aim to fully transform the District’s approach to punishment and public safety.


Job Summary:


DC Justice Lab is looking for an Events Producer to plan, facilitate, and coordinate logistics for the special events we sponsor, host, or attend. The Events Producer is a newly-created, full-time position, reporting to the Attorney Advisor and working with the Special Assistant to the Executive Director. DC Justice Lab seeks someone who believes in our mission; who is detail-oriented, values the safety and freedom of everyone in the District, and has strong organizational skills to position us to:

  • Maximize our visibility in the community by hosting well-planned and impactful events, including but not limited to public hearings, community trainings, festivals, conferences, and staff events;
  • Cultivate and foster lasting relationships with donors by planning private fundraisers; and
  • Creatively and effectively handle the details of event design, accommodations, and logistics for a variety of purposes and audiences.


Other responsibilities and configurations can evolve over time with input and insights from the Executive Director.


This is a remote-first position, but the Events Producer must live in the DC area and have the ability to work from our office on a semi-regular basis.


Classification and Compensation:


The Events Producer is a salaried exempt position. Starting salary is $55,000 - $75,000 annually. Benefits include:

Responsibilities:


  • Liaise with donors and sponsors to support DC Justice Lab’s donor stewardship plan; and
  • Manage new and existing annual events, such as community festivals, conferences, trainings, and fundraisers;
  • Coordinate cooperative work among all volunteer event committees, and manage all event volunteers;
  • Manage travel accommodations for staff attending events outside of D.C.;
  • Facilitate invoicing processes for vendors and event contractors;
  • Collaborate with DC Justice Lab’s Attorney Advisor to identify terms for agreements with vendors and other contract event staff;
  • Collaborate with DC Justice Lab’s public relations team to engage public figures and other notable persons to attend our events.
  • Plan and execute events pursuant to a set budget;
  • Assess the results of events for success and identify areas for improvement;


Experience, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent experience; and
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends when necessary.


Qualifications:


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to work independently, multitask, and meet strict deadlines; and
  • At least five (5) years of experience coordinating advocacy, community outreach and fundraising events, with a proven track record of success;
  • Proficient use of MS Office and Google Workspace;
  • A passion for inspiring action from DC residents and growing political power for a safer, freer, more equal District.
  • Experience or strong interest in donor or contact database management; and
