Position Overview:
Work to obtain new business opportunities for the company by evaluating and estimating construction costs for competitive bids. Assist in the effort of subcontractor recruitment, prequalification, bid solicitations, and on-going evaluation.
Essential Job Functions:

• Responsible for the accuracy of take-off (Quantity Surveys) and pricing of own work and others assigned specifically to your projects.
• Use the information available and background knowledge to assemble a complete and competent bidder’s list, coordinate pre-bid meetings, hold bid openings and bid review meetings, and to review job costs throughout the project for trends.
• Maintain relationships with subcontractors and equipment/material vendors.
• Make phone calls to subcontractors/vendors soliciting bids as required and update digital bidding software with their intentions to bid.
• Understand how to identify missing components within design documents and account for those components in cost estimates.
• Reconcile estimates with consultants and design team members.
• Review the scope of construction work to be completed so as to validate the type of work, basic materials, project duration and suggest responsibilities for construction.
• Understand construction means and methods and how they affect costs due to schedule and productivity.
• Develop accurate conceptual cost models.
• Contribute in a meaningful way to value engineering and systems alternative proposals.

Skills

• Competent computer skills to perform essential functions listed above
• Ability to listen to the needs of the prospect and analyze means and methods to resolve those needs in a professional and economical manner.
• Blue print and/or construction document reading.
• Ability to communicate (orally and in writing) in a professional manner when dealing with employees, vendors and company contacts.
• Excellent organizational, planning, and prioritization skills.
• Strong analytical, problem solving, and negotiation skills.

Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or equivalent. Three to five years experience in Estimating in the Construction Industry is preferred.
