An agency of the City of New York seeks an experienced Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Consultant on a long-term, temporary position which can be either hybrid or fully remote. This is a full-time position (40 hours weekly), Monday-Friday with an hourly rate up to $75 an hour.
Primary Duties:
The ERM Consultant will develop, manage, and maintain all aspects of the enterprise-wide risk management program. The position requires confidence and initiative, independent action, the ability to make decisions and take responsibility for them, and a keen attention to detail. Under direction of the Acting Director of Finance, the consultant is responsible for performing the following duties:
- Develop training and communication materials and interact with stakeholders across the agency to educate on ERM processes and gather information on risk identification and mitigation. Provide guidance and training to promote risk/control awareness, ownership, and accountability
- Create/develop, implement, and maintain an ERM program and supporting policies and procedures
- Coordinate the activities of the Enterprise Risk Management Committee and perform all administrative functions (agenda preparation, meeting minutes, scheduling, etc.); present agenda topics as needed
- Facilitate the identification of risks throughout the organization; develop, report on, and monitor risk management issues; and develop methodologies for the assessment of risk throughout the organization
- Create agency risk appetite statements and key risk indicators with recommended mitigation to monitor and manage risks
- Guide and coordinate risk owners’ development of mitigation plans via proactive communication
- Facilitate the development, compilation, and maintenance of an organizational risk register (including risk profile, emerging risk, risk mitigation strategies)
Requirements:
- Experience with building risk reports/dashboards with emphasis on operational risk
- Skill in project management with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
- Understanding of application architectures and enterprise networks, e.g., LAN, WAN, Public/Private Cloud, Data Center, etc.
- Experience with finance and governmental entities (public retirement systems preferred)
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact with all levels of management and employees
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to exercise initiative and work independently
- Ability to judge the appropriateness of an organization’s policies and procedures against industry best practices
- Strong analytical skills, including attention to detail, accuracy and efficiency
- Ability to exercise professional judgement in decision making, problem solving and conflict resolution
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience with creating/setting up an ERM program
